The Newbie's Guide to Marketing Using Free Classifieds
Free classifieds are a fast and easy way for you to start marketing, especially if you're new to internet marketing.
The main advantage of using free classifieds is that you are posting your offers to places where people want to buy. It's also a great way to build backlinks to your website.
If you don't have your own website that's OK because you can promote your affiliate links on most of the high traffic classified ad sites.
You can use an link tracker like Viral URL. It's free.
Before you start your marketing campaign though, there's a few things you need to do. Then when you're ready to do your marketing campaign, posting your ads will be a breeze. Here are a few tips for starting your marketing campaign using free classifieds:
1. Create a worksheet of your product's benefits and features. This will help you in writing your ad.
The features of a product are the things it does. A lawn mower, for example, cuts grass. This is a feature.
The benefit could be that it gives you a manicured lawn like you would see on a movie star's estate.
To create your worksheet, draw a line down the middle of the page. Draw a line across the top. Label the top left of the page "Features". The top right should be "Benefits".
Under each heading, write down as much as you can about both the benefits and features of your product.
Then you need to choose one benefit for writing your ad. Because ads are short, you will only have enough room to include one benefit.
2. Write your headline. You want to give most of your attention to your headline. This is what will get others to read your ad.
3. Write your ad. Keep it as short and concise as possible. Focus on the main benefit of your product. Try to see your product the way your customer will see it. Ask yourself what need you are trying to fill for your customer. This will help you further focus your benefit.
I would suggest that you use a text file to keep all of your information. Incude the headline, ad, email address and any other information you may need to post your ad. This way, you can simply copy and paste your information into the form boxes.
4. Track your ad. Although you are posting on free classified sites, there's no reason to waste your time doing marketing that's ineffective. Your time is money.
Sites like Track That Ad will give you a free account you can use to track your ads and see how they are performing. Some sites, like US Free Ads, will offer some tracking for you so that you can see how your ads are performing.
Tweak your ads as necessary to get them to perform better. However, when you do, make sure you only change one element at a time. If you change your headline, don't change anything else. If changing your headline makes the ad perform better, then you can try changing other elements to see what happens.
The best advice I can give you is this: before you ever write your ads, study good ads. See how they perform. The best place to find ads you can study are in magazines and newspapers. Copy what you learn from this and use it in your own ads.
If you're writing ads for Google Adwords, then study ads in your topic. You can also study ads in other topics. The higher an ad ranks on Google, the better it is performing.
The key is to learn how to write a good ad before posting your ads.

I'll update those periodically, as well as add new sites when I find them.
Sites with the country listed do accept ads from other countries. One thing you definitely want to do is check the ranking by country. It will be a lot higher for that country. Rankings listed here are global.
- Facebook is the number one social networking site on the internet. They also have their own free classified ad site with ads available through Oodle. You may post ads for free. (I have linked to my profile for those who want to connect.)
- My Space
- MySpace even outranks Craigs List. It is one of two social networking web sites where you may post your classified ads. (The other is Facebook. For those who want to connect, I have linked to my profile.)
- Craig's List
- This is the number one classified ads website in the world. In fact, it's also one of the top 50 visited websites in the world with billions of page views every month. If you're willing to follow the guidelines, you can get a lot of traffic using this site.
- US Free Ads
- One of my personal favorites because the search engines love this site, and I can submit my articles and product reviews here. I actually get more traffic and sales from submitting here than I do a lot of the article directories. Easy to automate, it's an excellent solution for bum marketers. Free for personal use. Cheap if you're a business, and you can post unlimited ads.
- Adpost
- This site will give you your own personal classifieds site. You may post unlimited classified ads here, and you may post them either in the United States or worldwide.
- Backpage
- Backpage is the online version of Thrifty Nickel. What I like about this site is that it's very similar to Craigs List, so it's easy to use. It gets a lot of traffic, and you can actually get software to help you post there quickly. (For those who want the software, sign up for a paid account to my membership. It's included.)
- Classified Flyer Ads
- This is one of my personal favorites. The reason is that this site will syndicate two HTML ads for you for free. They will syndicate your ads to the top high traffic sites like Craig's List, Backpage, and others. This will save you tons of time submitting ads, and it's platform independent.
- Inetgiant
- Post unlimited free classifieds by city or state. Gets a lot of traffic, and they offer an ad posting service for a monthly fee for those who are interested.
- Domestic Sale
- Offers unlimited free classifieds. Similar to Oodle in design. Gets a lot of traffic.
- Highland Classifieds
- This is a very large classified ads website. You may post your ads or get your own free classified ads site to add to your site. Fully customizable.
