Training a Border Collie

Border Collie Having Fun by Diaper on Flickr

Training a Border Collie is a real challenge. Border Collies are born with a natural herding instinct - they even try to herd cats!

The general myth is that Border Collies are dumb and easy to train. The reality is that Training a Border Collie, regardless of the popular view, isn't easy. Border Collies are just Too SMART.

Herding cattle is not an easy task - Border Collies do this with ease. Training a Border Collie is a very real challenge.

While they want to obey their master, Border Collies are often confused by the mixed signals given by their master, often unconsciously.

You have to be consistent to train a Border Collie. This means using the same commands (both voice and hand signals) in exactly and precisely the very same way every single time.

Ron - Great lenz!!! Thank you for the training articles and videos. My wife and I are the proud owners of a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier name Una (rhymes with Tuna) which means 'Little Lamb' in Gaelic. My wife's a therapist and sometimes takes Una to one of the seniors homes she works in. They love Una there and she gets lots of treats. She puts a big smile on some sad faces. http://www.pottytrainingpuppiesinfo.com
