Freedom is so important and has different meanings to different people, which I examine here.
However, it is possible that my definition of "freedom" may differ from yours.
How can we move towards "freedom" until we know what we mean by it?
So I am starting off with a few definitions here, just to get the creative juices working!
However I want you to regard this as YOUR lens.
So please add your view-point at the Guest Book below.
I think this is an important issue, and it would be good if we could move towards clarity.
All best wishes,
Diane

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is one of the most famous phrases in the United States Declaration of Independence. These three aspects are listed among the "inalienable rights" of man. Though the commonly known phrase is "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," as written above, the exact quote, as written in the original document is "life, liberty, and the pursuit of personal happiness."The phrase is based on the writings of John Locke, who expressed a similar concept of "life, liberty, and estate (or property)". Locke said that "no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty, or possessions."
Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, and his words were a departure from the orthodoxy of Locke. Locke's phrase was a list of property rights a government should guarantee its people; Jefferson's list, on the other hand, covers a much broader spectrum of rights, possibly including the guarantees of the Bill of Rights such as free speech and a fair trial. The change was not explained during Jefferson's life, so beyond this, one can only speculate about its meaning.
These were the principles on which the United States of America was based.
However, many feel that today, their freedoms are being gradually eroded!
Other parts of the World
These tripartite principles are comparable to "liberté, égalité, fraternité" (liberty, equality, fraternity) in France or "peace, order and good government" in Canada. The phrase can also be found in Chapter III, Article 13 of the 1947 Constitution of Japan.
The phrase can also be found in President Ho Chi-minh's 1945 declaration of independence of the Republic of Vietnam.
Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights reads, "Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person."
The Radiant Sovereign self
was listening to the radio today, and they mentioned the concept of "The Radiant Sovereign Self"I thought to myself that this is moving towards my definition of Freedom
As we get in touch with ourselves, we can find our true, authentic selves. When we find that inner Radiant Sovereign Self, we feel powerful and free to lead the life we want.
Getting in Touch with the Radient Sovereign Self
How to we get in touch with our Radient Sovereign Self?In our busy, modern world, we fill our lives, and most people are too busy to even think about how they should be creating their lives!
However, I have found that it is only when we take a few moments on a regular basis to get in touch with our inner selves, and to tap into our inner resources, that we start to feel powerful enough to start leading the life that we wish.
One very effective way is to use Self Hypnosis, which is similar to meditation in many ways.
It can be difficult to know where to start, so I have drafted a short lens on Self Hypnosis, which gives you a simple start, and you may find that by clicking on the Self Hypnosis Link
John Lennon
John Lennon said:"Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans."
Is that not true? Unless we start to understand ourselves and make decisions as to how we wish to lead our lives, life just happens and passes us by!
Britney Spears
Can you imagine what it must be like to be Britney Spears? What image comes to mind when you think of her?
Glitter and celebrity and having a good time?
Or do you see the fragile person who is obliged to live her life in the press, always followed by paparazzi?
Personally, I think it must be awful to be a celeb, as you have NO FREEDOM! I cannot imagine much worse. How can you be yourself?
What do you think?
We can be Co-creators of our lives?
I believe that we can become co-creators of our lives. We can use creative visualization and other natural skills to help us achieve what we want. There was a simple, and yet powerful, book written in 1910 which shows us how to do that.
It is called "The Science of Getting Rich" written by Wallace D Wattles.
Some of the language seems a bit obtuse and archaic now. So I have taken the time to re-draft all 17 chapters and to word them in a more concise and transparent format.
Please visit my lens on the Laws of Attraction and SOGR here
Please take a few minutes to read it.
I promise you that if you read it, and put it into action, it will change your life for the better!
Your turn!
Thank you very much for reading this lens.I hope it has given you some food for thought.
I should be most grateful if you would make this lens your own by providing your views on "Freedom" below.
All best wishes,
Diane

- First of all Diane, I love this!
What a great concept for a lens. I hope you gets lots of participation.
To me, freedom is the ability to live true to my heart, expressing who I am in any situation or relationship. It is a freedom that no one can give and none can take away.
