Facebook's new daily deals offering, available in five cities now with plans to expand to more, will put deal offers right members' news feeds -- and if one catches their eye, they can pay for it with a credit card, PayPal or Facebook Credits. It's the first time Facebook's virtual currency can be used to buy real-world goods.

"Those folks now have the money to buy a massage or a meal," says Dave Martin, senior vice president of media at online marketing agency Ignited. "Beyond the simple idea of renting content, now you're actually getting durable goods."

There really is no secret to how to get Facebook credits. In fact there are only two ways.

The first way is to buy them. If you do this you're paying big money. Basically, you're paying full retail or in other words a real dollar for a dollar's worth of credits plus tax. Ouch!

The second way to get credits is the way Facebook insiders and hard core gamers do it. They prefer is to win them by playing games, filling out surveys, and occasionally shopping for other neat stuff. In most cases, you can win a ton of Facebook credits by investing a bit of time into doing these things. Once you get good at it, you can be earning up $25 per hour or better. Think about it. You can earn $25 per hour or better from home in your pajamas.

I've been scoring swag from places like Crowdstar, Zynga, and Playfish, etc, by watching advertisements and answering surveys. Now Facebook is going to do it too, by making its credits the new standard for virtual money in Facebook games.

Beginning this May, users will be able to earn about 1 free Facebook Credit (roughly $0.10 USD) for each online advertisement they can sit through. This is one way that Facebook will promote the new Facebook Deals. This is a service that tells you about where to find local discounts. You can get even bigger discounts if you pull in a few people to form a buying group. Looks like Mark Zuckerberg has decided that sites like GroupOn, BuyWithMe, and LivingSocial should be copied.

Any Facebook Credits you earn can be redeemed at Facebook Deals. Many insiders are predicting that Facebook credits will only appeal to Facebook gamers because the other sites are too far ahead already in the market.

This is an interesting idea but the payout is really low for just sitting there watching advertisements. I don't think it can compete with the faster method of winning credits that comes from playing games and filling out a few surveys. If I have a choice between getting one credit or 750 for just a bit more time, I know which option I'll choose.
