Gaming History
Many Free Games are included in Linux distributions. Some free games are open source, but not all open source games are free as some contain non-free components.
Free games are generally developed for fun without a profit goal in mind. Some free games are based on private content that had been made open source such as Warzone 2100.
Almost all free gaming projects are volunteer based. As a result free game projects usually take a long time to complete and are not of the highest quality.
An example of a free game is Freeciv, a clone of the popular game Civilization. Nexuiz, Tremulous, and Assaultcube are all 3D shooter games based of ID software's gaming engine.
