Great Golf Tips

I love to play golf.  I usually play on Friday afternoons with a good friend of mine (who is also a fanatic).  Below you will find a number of resources that I have found helpful in improving my game.  I'm sure they will help you, too.

If you don't do anything else to improve your golf swing, do these three things:

1. Watch the video below this intro.

2. Read this!  It shows you how to dramatically improve your golf swing in an easy way that anybody can follow.

3. Read the top 10 funny golf quotes on this page.  Okay, okay, it won't improve your game, but you'll feel better about having a bad round!

My New Adams Golf Clubs: Pricey and Worth It!

by Jonathan Leger

So I finally went out and bought some new golf clubs. I've been playing for about a year, and decided it was time. After reviewing a number of popular brands and clubs, there was one that stood out to me, the Adams A2 OS Hybrids.

I think out of a hundred reviews I must have read, maybe only one was negative. The rest were overwhelmingly positive, and the people writing the reviews were like me: needing some help from their clubs.

I had been using a cheap Wal-Mart Knight set I got for about $150.00, and decided that, since I'd been playing for over a year, it was time to upgrade.

The specific set I got was the "Adams A2 OS Men's 12-Piece Set with Bag" from GolfGalaxy.com. It cost me about $800 (which was more than I had to pay I found out later). Quite a bit pricier than my original purchase, and even though I could have got it for less, it was worth it.

It is much easier for me to hit the ball using the Adams hybrids, and so I get a lot more clean shots in with them. The irons always gave me trouble with my old set. I never could seem to get enough loft out of my swings. But with the Adams I almost always get the ball in the air. I hit the ball farther, and I've cut my game down an average of six strokes since using these clubs.

Let me say, though, that a good set of clubs is no fix for a bad swing! However, the Adams' have certainly given me more confidence, and I think that extra mental push makes me do even better, too.

So if you're looking for a new set of clubs, and you're not a pro (like me), definitely consider a set of Adams hybrids. I'm very happy with mine!

If you purchase the set from the Amazon link below, 25% of the profits will go to the March of Dimes Charity (and you'll pay a lot less than I did).

Stressing Over the Swing Is Deadly

Relaxing will help you hit the ball faster, farther and more accurately.

Like I mentioned earlier in this lens, my golf buddy and I play most Friday afternoons. In all our games together, we've both come to the same realization: stressing over the swing is deadly.

Have you ever noticed that you hit much better on the driving range than on the course? That's because you know it doesn't matter on the driving range, so you're more relaxed.

In this excellent video, the golf instructor explains that tense muscles are slower and less accurate than relaxed muscles. If you're stressing over the swing, then you're much more likely to make a mistake.

It still happens to me, because I want to do well, but as often as I remember to relax, I see the ball fly farther and straighter.

In Golf, it Pays to Give Less Than 100%.

Of your swing, that is.

I was reading in Golf Digest the other day, and the front page article was about a tip my golf buddy has long told me to do (which helps tremendously): shorten your swing for increased accuracy and fewer mistakes.

When you bring the club all the way back, you are far more likely to hit the ball in such a way as to make a mistake (such as a slice). But if you cut your swing plane down, bringing the club back to, say, 80% of your usual, you retain greater control and thereby hit the ball accurately more often.

The end result is greater distance due to fewer errors. Even though you would hit the ball farther, in terms of yards, by giving 100%, the greater number of mistakes actually results in fewer absolute yards heading toward the flag.

A shorter swing is just one of the many great methods demonstrated in this great report.
