Please allow me to explain. What I mean is, by nature an internet marketer is interested in selling you something. I am one, and must confess that I have been guilty of this, so I'm not coming at you from some high and mighty perspective. Nope. I'm just trying to call it as I see it. Anyway what I'm driving at is that the desire to sell you something just naturally comes through in the products produced. Almost without fail, when you start reading that $97 ebook you just bought you'll find out you have to spend more money to make this "system" work.

Hold on, it gets better! A whole bunch of the teachings of the gurus have to do with 2 things. Product creation and joint ventures. This has caused a virtual flood of product launches and emails filling up your inbox ( from JV partners) telling you about the latest, greatest offering you just can't live without.

This creates yet another problem. One that existed back in 1998 when I started, but has grown much worse. I'm not sure what to call it, but I can describe it. Bassicaly, the inability of the aspiring internet marketer to focus. You are bombarded each and every day with.......

O.K. You get the idea. These are just a few subject lines from my inbox, get this, from just 1 day! Now how in the world is anyone going to make sense of all of this. There aren't enough hours in the day to make a dent in all of those things. And tomorrow you'll have an inbox flooded with more of the same. The word "overwhelmed" just isn't strong enough to describe how it feels. Perhaps I'm just on too many lists. Something tells me, I'm not the only one. Do you know what I'm talking about?

The old times have passed away. No more wasted time culling through an ocean of conflicting messages.
Here is the deal. It's time to put the billfold or purse away and quit trying to buy some secret shortcut. It doesn't exist. Everything like that I have ever tried either did not work at all, or only worked a very short time until something beyond my control changed and then it didn't work anymore.

The truth is:

There is no substitute for hard work.

There , I said it. It's about time somebody did.
Get rich quick is not going to happen to me or you, in all probability. Oh, sure once in a blue moon it happens, but that's the exception and not the rule.
Almost all sales letters you read plays on the powerful desire inside almost everyone to make a lot of cash really fast. I admit I want that. you most likely do to. Of course, that would be great. But, please

Admit to yourself here and now that it isn't going to happen. Go ahead, Say it out loud a few times.

Whehhhh! Don't you feel better? You aren't going to get rich quick and neither am I! We have accepted it, and now we can move ahead.

I know I lost a lot of readers on that one, but that's good. I needed to cull out anyone not ready for that reality. They aren't ready for a new beginning yet. Nothing I can do about that but pray for them. But you are ready. I know that for sure or you would not still be reading this. That's very good. It means you will likely be receptive to other truths I have learned along the way. I am quite willing to share them with you.

Another important thing I have learned is:

Don't imitate, innovate

Don't copy anyone, not even me. :~}
Trying to copy someone else is a big waste of time. You will have to sail your own ship on the "work at home internet business" ocean. I am not saying to be an island. I am saying you will have to blaze your own trail. Never stop learning. Take notes. Keep records. Build on what works, trash what doesn't.
You can do it! Don't quit and don't waste time if you can help it. Stay focused. getting off the newest, latest greatest merry-go-round mentioned above will be a huge help with keeping focused.

I can almost here someone saying "focused on what?" That's a great question only you can answer.
Remember our goal is to focus on something and get really good at it. You will have to decide what you want to do, but keep in mind a jack of all trades can be a master of none.

I would suggest ask yourself what to you like? List a few things on a sheet of paper. You probably know quite a bit about each of those things you just wrote down. Now you have options. Think about it some. There are a lot of things you could do with that info stored in your head. Please do some soul searching and some thinking about possibilities.

Let me give an example that might help. Let's say you relly like the site you are on right now, Squidoo. Great! Learn everything you can about it.
This site has the potential to earn a lot of cash for you. The marketing possibilities are endless.
You could earn a great living, and I'm not kidding.

But there is a catch. Can you guess what it is? Sure you can.

You have to get good at it.

Once you make up your mind to learn and then implement what you learn (here is where the hard work comes in) , the sky is the limit. Remember,
innovate, don't imitate. Decide you are going to be the best darn lensmaster there is, and then do it.
Of course, this was just one example, intended to get you thinking. The same principle will work for your own website, or whatever you decide to focus on. But....focus is key. Figure out what you want to focus on first, then go from there. one step at a time. And it will take time, and that's O.K. Rome wasn't built in a day.

I do want to say one more thing before I get off my soap box. Remember what I said about putting away your wallet? Once you decide exactly what you are going to focus on, and are ready to start the "learning about it" process, then and only then, you can get your billfold out and purchase training materials related to your target area. using our squidoo example, there are some really good ebooks out there about squidoo. This is true of just about anything you can think of. Buying only things related to your subject of focus sure beats chasing the "latest, greatest, super secret, got to have it now" product that just came out.
