Freelance Writing Jobs for Beginners, College Students and Moms
No you do not need a degree (it helps), all you need is the desire and will to do it and of course an opinion. Yes somebody somewhere on this planet might actually care what you think and be willing to pay you for it (Gasp).
Freelance Writing Jobs Online
-to Blog or not to Blog
Who in the blazes is going to pay you to ramble on about your favorite movie, past time, hobby, interests or areas of expertise? You might be surprised because the answer is a lot of people; you just need to find them.
Freelance writing jobs for beginners, college students and moms abound. The World Wide Web generates absolutely massive amounts of revenue each year and almost every major corporation appreciates this. So what does this mean for freelance writers? It means there are organizations willing to pay money to make money.
With the recent explosion in Blog popularity comes a demand for fresh content, an insatiable demand. Major companies like 20th Century Fox, Ford, Mitsubishi, and a host of other big names have discovered the value of the Blog platform and they absolutely must have fresh original content each and every day on a wide range of topics if they intend to stay relevant. Enter the freelance writer.
Case in point
Let us say that a big movie production house is launching a new Hollywood feature film about soccer in Afghanistan. As part of their promotional drive that encompasses radio, newspaper, and television ads they will also want a strong Internet presence based on Blogs and user forums that attract Internet traffic and related discussions; eyes on the product at all times and the more the better.
Many of these large companies are willing to pay to have the "average Joe" post comments, feelings, or feedback on a Blog or public forum about specific products or events. This is the most abundant form of freelance writing job available online.
Real Writing Jobs for Beginners
So this site Real Writing Jobs is a writing job resource center that collects job postings from around the Internet and posts them in the members area for, you guessed it - members that pay $40 a month. The question is, is it worth $40 a month to you.The information (jobs) posted in the members area is collected from a host of free sites and that means you could find all that stuff for yourself for free.
Do you have the time? It does take a few hours a day to visit all those places manually and comb through job postings - so if you feel pinched for time this is a reasonable option that I have used myself.
Don't Buy the Hype
These sites (and all similar ones) have a very active marketing department that is entirely enthralled with over-blown claims and rampant sensationalism. "Make up to $150 per article" - that will only happen if you have a PHD on the topic/subject. For the vast majority of people looking for online work, that's not going to happen.
What you can expect is somewhere in the $2-10 range of pay per article or blog post. Remember that these writing job sites only collect data you could find yourself for free. You are essentially outsourcing your labor. 2 hours a day searching for stuff x 20 days a month = 40 hours of work a month. Or you outsource the labor (finding job postings) for a dollar an hour - which is the only real value to these sites.
Sometimes I have to remind myself that my time is worth more than a dollar an hour - lol.
Heads Up!
Yes its true you can get a trial for $4.95 - please keep in mind that after the trial period expires you will be automatically re-billed for the next entire month.
If for any reason at all you decide that this service is just not for you, you may cancel by calling 1-800-886-6011. Write that number down or bookmark this page for later use.
Freelance Writing Jobs and Article Directories
and Forums
Article Directories are another place to find freelance writing jobs. Many of these are free to use and generate a lot of traffic; however they rarely pay. Article Directories are primarily used by Internet Marketers and online business professionals building a Web presence. These individuals are often willing to pay for good content that they can post in a Directory in the hopes of acquiring significant traffic from it. To pursue this avenue you will also need at least a basic understanding of keyword analysis (if you do not know what that is, then this is not for you - yet).
In order to make any amount of money this way, you would need to write 10 articles (350 words each) a day because you can only sell them for about 3-5$ each. That is a lot of work for $50 a day assuming someone wants to purchase them.
Your articles need to be informative and reasonably well written, but anything goes. If you have a skill you can write about it. If you have a hobby, you can write about it. The more knowledge you possess about a topic, the better off you will be.
Example
Knitting is a surprisingly large industry and there are always new people around the world who want to learn. Teach them how; what tools do they need? What kinds of materials are needed? How about knitting techniques? You could write an entire article for each type of stitch! If they are well written then someone will buy them because there is money in knitting. Some webmaster somewhere will want them for his or her knitting related web site; you simply must find that person.
Show Me the Money!
forums for selling articles
These are the best forums for selling your articles. The member's list at these places is compromised primarily of Internet marketers. The Warrior Forum requires a one-time membership payment of around $30US in order to sell stuff via their site. Have a look and read some threads and you will see what is selling for yourself.
Digital Point is the other one and it is currently free. The requirement of membership is a 2-week waiting period and several good posts in their forum. Once you have qualified (very easy) you may start selling your articles in the appropriate section.
Popular Article Directories
to Look at
This should illustrate that you do not need to be some kind of wizard to do it.
Ezine Articles
GoArticles
ArticleSnatch
Here are 2 of the best
These Article Directories are among the best. The crowd that buys content (articles) here are willing to pay well; up to $200 for a single article. You do not post articles at these places willy-nilly, writing jobs are offered and you must bid for it; the cheapest guy gets the gig. Also, sometimes they hold contests on various topics and the winning participant receives a cash payment or credit.
In order to use these places effectively you need to be an "expert" at something or possess exceptional writing skills. Have a look.
Elance
This is a premier source for quality content and perhaps the best place to start for Article Directories that offer freelance writing jobs. They can pay really well.
Helium
This directory is not as strict as Elance so it may be a little easier to get content published. This also means that they generally offer less compensation.
How to Informational Directories
One of the best ways to generate passive income is with a "how to" article. This style of content gets a whole lot of traffic because people like to learn stuff for free. The past few years have seen a drastic rise in the popularity of "how to" sites.
How it works
You post a high quality "how to" article at one of the sites listed below and when people click on the links surrounding your article you receive a percentage of the revenue generated through Google adsense or other programs. If the topic is hot you can get a lot of traffic and traffic equals money.
You must be a real expert at whatever topic you choose to write about in order for your article to be accepted and for it to make you any money. A single article at one of these places can yield up to $120 a month in reoccurring passive income. That means you generate that revenue each and every month for as long as the Internet exists! Not bad at all.
In the above mentioned knitting example if you posted an article about each of the five stitch types, and if they received strong traffic, you could find yourself making up to $600 a month! Understand? Write it, post it and get paid every month.
Please note that most of the obvious topics have already been covered (like the knitting example). You have to think a little outside the box to be successful now.
eHow
This is the oldest and most used of these type of sites. Almost every mainstream topic has already been covered.
How Stuff Works
This is a "how to" site that focuses on how things actually work.
Wiki How
Almost identical to eHow. Check this one for available topics to submit an article about if it is already covered by eHow.
Hey You! | Freelance Writing Jobs for Students
sell what you've already done.
Look for a reputable blog on a topic related to your essay and contact the webmaster about selling content to them. Alternatively browse the various sites described above and see if the topic is in demand. If you have a pile of already written stuff then that may be a good place to start.
Internet Marketing 101 | Crush Your Job
So you can write your little heart out and sell your articles for $2-10 each (more if they are very high quality) or you can learn how to set up a website for yourself and post your articles there. The advantage of doing this is that instead of making $2-10 selling written content to someone else, you can earn $2-5 a month in Google adsense per article. Note that these articles would have to be on a reasonably hot topic to earn this.If you can write in volume consider this: 100 articles sold = $200-1000, 100 articles self governed = $200-500 a month for as long as the internet exists. That's the difference. Do this for a year or two (writing quality articles that help people) and you begin to see the income potential.
FYI: This little web page (the one you are reading now) generates about $2-10 a month.
Now this is not for everyone because - my god - that is a lot of writing. You really got to enjoy it to stay motivated. Also, it requires you to learn all sorts of technical internet things - its all pretty simple stuff - but technology can frighten people.
