I Get Freelance Writing Jobs with Rentacoder

Rentacoder.com is not just for software coders. Freelance writers also benefit from it because there are TONS of job listings for writers.

As a freelance writer, one of the challenges I am faced with is securing enough work to make a good salary. For me, that means that I need to find work from a variety of sources.

Don't Give Up! I've placed hundreds of bids - eventually you'll get one project, then another, then another... you just need to stick with it long enough to get that first one.

Note: You can use this info and adapt it to any of the online bidding sites.

My Odds Are Great with Rentacoder

After about a year of hard, consistent work, I am experiencing great odds.

But I've learned from experience that I can't go crazy. So now I place a few bids and wait and see what happens. My last round of bidding gave me one project. I'm happy with that. I'll finish it before I move on.

My Favorite Bid Site

Sign up now by clicking the image on the left. Get started right away by filling out your profile and bidding for jobs.

One of my favorite sources for finding freelance writing jobs is with Rentacoder.com. I use it over any of the other freelance bidding sites because I have the highest success rate.

No Monthly Fee

I also don't need to pay a monthly fee in order to be able to use the site and post bids. Instead, they take a commission which I have learned to compensate for in my bidding.

Complete Projects Promptly

The sooner you complete the projects, the sooner you'll get paid. Plus, if you reach your deadline with days to spare, you'll be likely to get repeat work.

Respond Promptly to Potential Buyers

Another tip is to always respond to the invitations you may get to bid. I always thank them for including me, or I'll even place a bid. Once you get established on the site people will start contacting you. Responding even if you aren't interested is a good way to build a relationship there.

Set A Goal - One Bid a Day

So maybe you've tried to get some jobs with rentacoder but it didn't work out. Well, I find that the more consistent you are with bidding, the more successful you'll be.

Set a goal to make one bid a day, and eventually you will find success. Use my sample bid to tailor your own. Add your own information, but use mine as a template and for the structure. After a while, you will start to develop a bidding style that works for you.

One bid a day is a good place to start. If you find that you can make more bids per day, increase the number.

Good luck!

Example of a Successful Bid on Rentacoder

Here is an example of a successful bid. Modify it to help you get started. I encourage you to find your own bidding style but you are more than welcomed to adapt my bid if you need to.

My bid is $1300 for the entire project. I have extensive experience as a content producer and have written on numerous topics including pets, finances, travel, real estate, investing, health and fitness, business, and food and drink. My work has been published in Garden & Hearth, Herbs for Health, Herb Quarterly, Dollar Stretcher, Pedestal Magazine, Pioneer Thinking, and many others. In addition to writing articles for publication, I also maintain my own blogs and websites. For my clients I specialize in writing content for web sites and articles. For samples of my work please visit http://www.associatedcontent.com/user/3337/katherine_huether.html. Also please visit my profile at Rentacoder.com for more information about my experience.

Try Another Bid Site!

You can use these techniques at any freelance job site you like. There are a lot of them out there. A lot of people these days have been using oDesk.com. I went through the signup process (and it is lengthy) but I have not pursued it any further than that. I'm simply not doing work for clients any longer. But if you want to try oDesk, click the banner to sign up and get started. It does have a great reputation.

Hi - Great lens. I was wondering about rentacoder and I'll give it a shot. I'm also starting out with Associated Content.

Do you have any tips for creating a profile? I worked as an editor at a legal corporation for years, but couldn't take any samples with me when I left, and currently don't have samples for the web - I still have to create them.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the comments on my lens. Andy, I agree - there are a lot of jobs that get posted that ask for "professionals" and then they cap a major project at $25! There are some good jobs, but you need to look to find them. tbfrascone, do let me know!

It is fair to warn about the pitfalls of rentacoder.
With bigger/serious projects rentacoder staff are INCREDIBLY STUPID PROFESSIONAL LIARS.
They lie even with their slogan.
The DUMMIES in rentacoder staff are proficient to blame someone else.
