Very nice article, just shows you learn something new every day. I always thought Rentacoder was specific to those requiring and providing computer programming skills.

Very interesting information. I'm always looking for great sites to let people know about. Thanks.
  • kohuether Feb 17, 2011 @ 9:14 am | delete
You're welcome - I initially chose the site because you don't need a member fee - but the commissions are a little high - but it evens out I think.

Hi, this is Nicole from Rent a Coder. Just wanted to compliment you on a well written article about the site. Also wanted to give @Tabby a bit of advice regarding her bio... Rent a Coder provides an online testing service that will help strengthen your credibility. This testing service (appropriately called ExpertRatings) proves your worth to buyers so you can win more bids. It's a great way to compensate for a small or nonexistent portfolio. Check it out here: http://www.rentacoder.com/RentACoder/ExpertRating/ExpertRatingTestList.aspx

Hi - Great lens. I was wondering about rentacoder and I'll give it a shot. I'm also starting out with Associated Content.

Do you have any tips for creating a profile? I worked as an editor at a legal corporation for years, but couldn't take any samples with me when I left, and currently don't have samples for the web - I still have to create them.

    Thanks!
    Tabby

Whew! I've gone numb! I've just placed my first bid ever on RAC. Did you know your lense comes up first when googling on how to bid on RAC? Congrats! I'll let you know if I win. :)

Thanks everyone for the comments on my lens. Andy, I agree - there are a lot of jobs that get posted that ask for "professionals" and then they cap a major project at $25! There are some good jobs, but you need to look to find them. tbfrascone, do let me know!

    About 1st and 2nd "comments":
The insulter "kamen123" has been banned from RentACoder
Main reason: "He insulted other parties numerous times".

It is fair to warn about the pitfalls of rentacoder.
With bigger/serious projects rentacoder staff are INCREDIBLY STUPID PROFESSIONAL LIARS.
They lie even with their slogan.
The DUMMIES in rentacoder staff are proficient to blame someone else.
    Evidences at http://kamen123.blogspot.com

nice lens. I'm going to give them a try. I'll let you know how it goes.

I tend to avoid bid-for-job sites, because I think they're too focused clients seeking low bid services. Instead, you should focus on developing a loyal following of LOCAL clients by posting your services on sites like www.FreelanceLocalTech.com and the like, that let you advertise for free.
