The Freeplay Foundation is an internationally acclaimed humanitarian organisation. We transform lives through environmentally friendly technologies. Our most important objective is to provide the poorest of the poor with sustainable access to education, information and energy.
Our mission is to improve the quality of lives by distributing portable solar and wind-up powered Lifeline radios and Lifelights. Working mainly in sub-Saharan Africa, we focus on orphans and other vulnerable children, rural women, refugees and people who are ill.
Since 2003, we have distributed over 200,000 Lifeline radios, which has helped more than 8 million poor and vulnerable people improve the quality of their daily lives.

Freeplay Foundation - Lighting up Rwanda
More than 500 million people in Africa have no access to electricity. The Freeplay Foundation provides wind-up and solar-powered lights to the poorest of the poor -- orphaned children in Rwanda. Meet the children that require a light in their lives. Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks and the Lemelson Foundation funded Freeplay Foundation's development of the Lifelights, which aims to provide clean, safe light to the poorest and most vulnerable in Africa.
