A princess hat, or hennin, was a cone-shaped headdress worn by European women of nobility in the 15th century. The hennin served to cover the hair, a religious practice for married women in that day.

MaterialsSmall amount pink worsted weight yarn
Size H crochet hook
Fiberfill for stuffing
9" length of lace
Size: 4" tall
Gauge: 2 rounds of dc=1"
Note: Weave in loose ends as work progresses.
Rnd 1: Ch 4, join w sl st in 1st ch to form ring, ch 3, 5 dc in ring, join w sl st in top of ch 3 (6 dc).
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, join as before (6 dc).
Rnd 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in next dc, *dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * around, join as before (9 dc).
Rnd 4: Ch 3, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, rep from * around, join as before (13 dc).
Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, join as before (13 dc).
Rnd 6: Ch 3, *2dc in next dc, dc in next dc, rep from * around, join as before (19 dc).
Rnd 7: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, join as before, fasten off (19 dc).
Bottom: Ch 4, join w sl st in 1st ch to form ring, ch 3, 18 dc in ring, join as before, fasten off, leaving a 12" length of yarn for sewing (19 dc).
Finishing
Tie a knot in one end of lace. Thread a yarn needle with unknotted end and pull lace through center of Rnd 1. Stuff hat.
Line up edges of bottom with dcs of Rnd 7, sew bottom to top.
