How To Download PSP Games

What to do after you get your files from the free PSP games downloads sites

The PSP allows portability for playing games as the PSP games are stored on a small UMD disc that you can carry around. Aside from the UMD disc, you can also store PSP games onto your memory stick. This is a simple guide on how to download PSP games from your computer to your PSP using a memory stick.

Firstly I recommend you purchase a 1GB memory stick but a 256MB one should be fine if you can't afford a larger capacity. The bigger the memory stick the more you can download onto your PSP. Make sure your PSP version is 1.5 . Not only will you be able to download games, you can also download PSP music, PSP movies, PSP tv shows, and lots more!

You download your games off from sites like PSP Blender and onto your PC and then transfer your game (or music/video/image) files to your PSP via a USB cable. USB cables are very cheap to buy if you don't already have one.

When your PSP is connected to your computer, your PSP will apear as a removable memory source (similar to a USB drive). It will assign a drive letter (which one will depend on your computer configuration) and you will be able to drag and drop your PSP games, PSP music, PSP movies and so on onto your memory stick or card. So to re-iterate:

Step 1

Copy your PSP game or video files to the correct path on the PSP or the games won't work. The correct path is PSP>GAME (all the folder names are in caps)

Step 2

After the PSP games are fully transferred onto your memory stick, disconnect the PSP from your computer. In your PSP main menu, scroll to GAME and then select Memory Stick option. Press the X button, and a list of available games/videos (and more!) in your memory stick will be displayed. If you find any errors on your PSP, you might want to check your firmware version (make sure it is version 1.5!)

Breaking PSP News

PSP-PS3 Increased Future Integration Planned
The PS3 will be still relevant a decade from now. So says Dave Karraker, Sony America's senior director of corporate communications. In an interview with our friends at Kill Zone Unit, Karraker said, "We have always been a technology-driven company, focusing on building systems that stand the test of time and don't get abandoned after just five years. We have taken some grief over that recently, with people saying we "over-engineered" the PS3. But, ten years down the road, when the PS3 is still relevant, people will look back and say that we made the right decision to include so much forward-looking technology in the box."

This is significant as the consoles generally last around six years, and considering the PS2's record, there may well be some truth in Karraker's words.

Karraker also made some loose non-committal statements regarding future XMB features such as messaging, and the inclusion of rumble to the SIXAXIS. Although not a firm commitment, it's still promising.

"We are currently in discussions with Immersion on how we can incorporate their technologies into our products. No word on when that will happen.....We are still just scratching the surface of what we hope to do with the XMB and the PlayStation Network. Rest assured we are listening very carefully to gamers and are investigating ways to implement the features they really want. I think you saw this most recently with the implementation of background downloading from the PlayStation Store."

There was discussion on the future of the PSP including PS3 and PSP integration. Considering the trend in device convergence it is more than likely Sony will want to increase the level of current integration between the two devices.

"We just announced the price drop on PSP which saw a really good bump in sales. We have also announced that we are looking to launch the entertainment download service this year, in addition to God of War coming to the platform..."

Miscellaneous PSP Updates

Earlier this month, word of a smaller, lighter PlayStation Portable slipped the lips of Sony UK boss Ray Maguire. Specifically, Maguire said that the current PSP is just the "first iteration" of the handheld, and that an improved version will eventually follow.

Now, just two weeks after his initial comments, Maguire is taking it all back. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, he says, "As we sit here today, there is no next iteration of the PSP."

"If you're referring to what was reported some weeks ago, I was referring to the fact that that's what we do as a company," said Maguire. "We R&D everything. You only have to look at PlayStation and PlayStation 2 to see that's always in our mind."

The PSP is constantly compared with the handheld market's current leader, the Nintendo DS. Customers may be expecting a revised PSP because Nintendo revised the original DS to the DS Lite, a smaller, lighter version of the original. Following Nintendo's slick redesign, sales of the DS Lite skyrocketed, gaining the acceptance from even casual gamers.

Maguire speaks on the constant comparisons between PSP and DS Lite, saying, "They are two different devices for two different markets. It's comparing apples and oranges again, but because they are both portable it's probably a natural thing to do. The marketplace that we need to get into is the PS3 connectivity market."

He continues, "From a PSP situation we have a wider split of third-party versus first-party than our competitors do, who are very much first-party developers. We've been putting quite a lot of energy behind PS3, now we'll be able to split some of those resources and go back to the PSP to make sure we've got some compelling games coming. As a criticism, yes, perhaps part of that is true. But we have a solution in place."

PSP Games on Wikipedia

The PlayStation Portable (officially abbreviated PSP, and sometimes referred to as PSP-1000) is a handheld game console manufactured and marketed by Sony Computer Entertainment. Development of the console was first announced during E3 2003, and it was unveiled on May 11, 2004 at a Sony press conference before E3 2004. The system was released in Japan on December 12, 2004, in North America on March 24, 2005, and in the PAL region on September 1, 2005.

The PlayStation Portable is the first handheld video game console to use an optical disc format, Universal Media Disc (UMD), as its primary storage medium. Other distinguishing features of the console include its large viewing screen, robust multi-media capabilities, and connectivity with the PlayStation 3, other PSPs, and the Internet.

Despite the console's superior computing power and multimedia capabilities, sales have (with cyclical exceptions) lagged behind its main competitor, the Nintendo DS. Nevertheless, the console is "the most successful non-Nintendo handheld game system ever sold". After the release of a remodeled, slimmer, and lighter version of the PlayStation Portable, appropriately titled Slim and Lite, in early September 2007, sales quadrupled in the United Kingdom the following week and increased by nearly 200% in North America for the month of October.
