It seems that each day the media reports some type of family violence and tragedy. It is not possible to pick up a newspaper without reading about some type of domestic assault that shocks neighbors and destroys the family where it occurs. Even if the violence is not occurring in your home or neighborhood you are affected by it because it is so prevalent in our society. The result is we take a longer time to get to know our neighbors because we do not trust as easily and we limit how far from home we allow our children to venture. Companies and work settings also do a more thorough job of screening employees so that they are not hiring people with an extensive history of assaultive behavior.

Today anyone can go on the internet and have access to public records, as long as you have the person's name and date of birth. The site that holds this information is the bureau of criminal apprehension. Most states have this bureau. Other public information that is available through most government agencies are the tax records for property as well as the legal owner of property. This is important information to look up when purchasing property so that you know what the taxes are and to make sure that they have been paid. There are times when a home owner does not disclose the accurate amount of the property tax.
