Welcome To The Free Republic

Lately the media buzz is all about 'global democratization.' What most people do not know is that The United States was never designed to be a democracy, but a Free Republic. The purpose of this site is to provide an overview of The Free Republic, what it means, how it relates to the U.S. Constitution, and laws as reported in the daily news.

What is the Free Republic?

America is the union of fifty sovereign states. The federal government's role was never to be a nanny, charitable organization, or IRS thug. Elected officials were never to subject its citizens to tyranny, bow to monarchy, nor a fledge under a pseudo democracy. Democracies have failed throughout history, and this is something America's Founding Fathers struggled to avoid.

Republic Defined

The Simple Origin and Meaning Of the Word "Republic"

The origin of the word "republic" begin with the joining of two words: Real Public. In France, the word is recognized as 'republiique,' and it's Latin origin is 'republica.'

By definition, a republic is a commonwealth; a political community in which the supreme power in the state is vested either in certain privileged members of the community, or in the whole community, varying from the most exclusive oligarchy to a pure democracy.

Federal Republics of The United States and Switzerland are examples, and consist of a number of separate states bound together by treaty, so as to present the spect of a single state with a central government without renouncing their individual internal self powers of an internal self government.

According to Wikipedia, "A distinct set of definitions for the word republic evolved in the United States. In common parlance a republic is a state that does not practice direct democracy but rather has a government indirectly controlled by the people. (the 'real public.') This understanding of the term was originally developed by James Madison, and referenced in Federalist Paper No. 10. This meaning was widely adopted early in the history of the United States, and included in Noah Webster's dictionary of 1828. It was a novel meaning to the term; representative democracy was not an idea mentioned by Machiavelli, and did not exist in the classical republics.

The term republic does not appear in the Declaration of Independence, but does appear in Article IV of the Constitution which "guarantee[s] to every State in this Union a Republican form of Government." In 1875 the Supreme Court ruled that the "equal rights of citizens" were inherent to the idea of republic."

However, the term republic is not synonymous with the republican form. The republican form is defined as one in which the powers of sovereignty are vested in the people and are exercised by the people, either directly, or through representatives chosen by the people, to whom those powers are specially delegated.

Most members of the Free Republic are just tax paying citizens who gather to share the latest news about government land grabs, corruption, the erosion of our constitutional freedoms, and our soldiers right to defend themselves and our country without prosecution or persecution from any foreign land. A great many members of this group are veterans of war. Many more are family members of veterans, or those currently at war with terrorism against the United States and its allies.
