Prevent Employee Absences with Relevant Off the Job Safety Training

Want to break up your safety meetings from the same 'ol same 'ol "Slips, Trips and Falls" and "Basic Fire Safety" meeting topics that your employees have probably been through 100 times before?

Try taking a few minutes out of your safety meeting to talk about an off the job safety topic like "Moving Safety" or "Lawn mower Safety" or even "Flu Prevention Strategies" or "Halloween Safety."

Not only will your employees be more interested in your safety meeting topic (because it's something you never covered before, but employees will also appreciate your attention to their personal life.

Your company will benefit from a greater attention during your safety meeting. Plus, when your employees (and their kids) are safe at home there are less absences at work and higher employee productivity.

The Best Free Safety Meeting Resources (by topic)

These are my favorite free Safety Meeting resources, sorted by topic. Be sure to bookmark this page because I'm always scouring the web to find the best free safety meeting topics out there. And if you know of one I've missed be sure to let me know!

Slips Trips and Falls - Free: You don't even have to hold a safety meeting with this free course. Just assign it to everyone at your company to take from their desks (or from a shared computer). They can complete the course at their convenience, and then you can print the records that they did it to comply with OSHA.
Back Safety Training: This site has online Back Safety training free along with a quiz that your employees can take at the end.
Free HAZCOM Training: This is another online course titled Intro to Hazcom. It has audio narration, animations and interactive quiz questions disbursed throughout the course. Could be done in a group, or assigned to individual employees to do on their own. It's free either way but you do have to sign up for an account.
Free Workplace Fire Safety: This online safety training course is free for all your employees to take at their desks, then they can print their completion certificate for your OSHA record keeping.
Free First Aid Safety: You'll find free Safety Talks, articles, artwork and other materials to help you present introductory sessions and to do reviews with your workers here.
Free Forklift Training: Free forklift training materials and employee test. I still prefer the interactive forklift simulation in this forklift safety course, but there is a fee for it.

Oil and Gas Safety Meetings

The oil and gas industry may also have some very specific training. Please take a look at the SafetySkills website and check out some interesting courses specific to the oil and gas industry such as oil rig safety, lockout/tagout procedures and hydrogen sulfide to name a few.
