Baby's Blanket Sewing Pattern

Use this as a handy baby's blanket or wrap

One of my favorite things to sew is this quick and easy baby's blanket or wrap. I have made many for my own children and given away many more as presents to new mothers.
1. Take a piece of soft material like flannelette, muslin or batiste about 2 metres or 80 inches.
2. Fold it in half with right sides together so you have a large square.
3. Sew around 2 sides of it with your sewing machine or overlocker. One side is the fold.
4. Sew the 3th side but leave a gap to fit your hand in.
5. Turn the blanket back to the right side through the gap.
6. Sew the gap by hand or carefully with your machine.
7. To finish off the blanket choose a stitch on your machine that will make a nice pattern and stitch all the way around the blanket about 3 inches from the edge. If you know the blanket is for a boy or girl you can choose a color to match. Lemon is a good choice if you don't. See photo.
8. Give it a quick press with your iron, especially around the seams and you are done.
This blanket or wrap is very useful. It can be used as a blanket in the baby's crib or in the car. It can be used to put on the floor for the baby to lay on. I would always carry one in my baby's bag when visiting family and friends.
Hope you enjoyed this free sewing pattern.

Cushion Sewing Patterns

Easy to make cushions to add color around your home.

You need:
a quilted square of your choice
wadding
a square of calico
a zip
sewing thread
matching material for the back of the cushion
I put the quilted square on top of the wadding and calico.
I hand stitched around the hearts through the wadding and calico to give a padded look to the hearts.
I added a zip to the back of the cushion for easy removal for washing.
I put the right sides together and sewed around the cushion.
I turned it the right side out and put in a cushion insert.
This one is 16 inches square.
Now you have your cushion!

Sewing Pattern - Wizard Cape

Children's dress up costumes

I have made capes for my children to dress up as witches and wizards. They are easy to make and the children love dressing up. They are also good for Halloween. I made the cape reversible with black on one side and red on the other with red and black ties.
Choose 2 colors of material.
Measure your child from their shoulder down to just below their knee. This will be the length of your cape.
Drape the material around your child's shoulders until both sides join under their chin.
The cape should be wider at the bottom.
Cut the material to fit your child with the bottom wider. For example the bottom is 2 yards (2 metres) the top is 1 and a half.

Put the right side together and sew around the edges. Leave an opening big enough to put your hand in and turn the material so the right sides are out.

Hand sew up the opening.

Turn the top over about 2 inches and pin in place.

Sew along leaving the ends open . Make a tie about 2 yards( 2 metres)long or use a cord to match your cape. Thread this through the top stitched part of the cape.
Gather the cape along the tie so it sit evenly on your child shoulder.
Now you child can enjoy being a witch or wizard!
