If you are searching for free music, make sure that it is not only free, but LEGAL.I have two lens on copyright issues that might be a good resource. The first is CCLI - Christian Copyright Licensing International and the second is Copyright Laws and the Church Musician.
Inexpensive Music Resources
- St. James Music Press
- Rather than publishing individual anthems, St. James Music Press publishes volumes of music, each containing from 20 to 25 anthems and costing about $55, and the purchaser is given permission to photocopy as many copies as they want or need. The books do not contain praise-songs, choruses or renewal music. These are new traditional anthems and fresh arrangements of varying difficulty which have been tried and tested by many fine church choirs.
- The Bagaduce Music Lending Library
- The Bagaduce Music Lending Library was established in 1983 and has grown to become an international resource center for printed sheet music and scores, housing numerous collections of music representing all genres of written music except marching band music. You must join the library in order to borrow music - CLICK HERE to view the membership fees.
- Hymn Charts Lite
- A nice resource for the smaller church that is doing blended worship. You can download any number of hymn arrangements for a membership fee of $79.95, and can make an many copies as you need for your choir and praise band. - Christian Choral Music Shareware
- Christian Choral Music Shareware is a site with music for the church arranged / composed by Bo Williams, The Christian Church of Pacific Grove, CA.
"If you decide to use something in a service or performance, I ask that you send a modest shareware fee, usually $20 - much less than the cost of printed anthems for the average size choir. This entitles you to make as many copies as you need and perform the piece as often as you like."

- The Charles H. Templeton Sr Music Museum
- The Charles H. Templeton Sr. Music Museum at Mississippi State University - Mitchell Memorial Library. The Library has undertaken the digitization of the sheet music contained within the collection. Since a large portion of these works was published prior to 1923, their copyrights are considered to be in the public domain. In 2000, the Library developed the Charles H. Templeton, Sr. Sheet Music Collection web site and unveiled the project to the world. Since the project began, over 2,000 pieces of music have been scanned and made available on the Internet for scholars, musicologists, and music lovers. - Historic American Sheet Music
- The Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library at Duke University holds a significant collection of 19th and early 20th century American sheet music. Several music publishers, as well as online music stores, etc. offer a free song each month, a free piano piece every other month, a handful of free praise & worship choruses each month. Here are a few I've found:
- Great Worship Songs
- This site offers some free downloads of Praise & Worship music - usually change weekly. Click on the link on the LH nav bar for "Free Downloads"
- Free Piano Arrangement
- Word Music has a section specifically for Keyboard Music and about every two months, they feature a free download of a printed piece of keyboard music. The difficulty level varies from fairly easy to intermediate to advanced.
Scroll all the way down the page, and on the RH side, there's a section for FREE Arrangement. You'll need to add your name and email address, and then you'll be able to print out the PDF of the arrangement. - Praise Charts
- Praise Charts is a great resource for professionally produced Christian sheet music and Christian chord charts for more than 600 praise songs featuring the best of Integrity, Hillsong, United, Chris Tomlin, Don Moen, Casting Crowns, Israel Houghton, and Matt Redman. They also have some free orchestrations available.
- Free Jazz Music
- As noted on the website: "These artist copies are provided free of charge to you in the hopes of promoting same. If jazz is to keep alive, new tunes must be written to keep new people interested, not rehash the old and go backwards! A lot of young people don't even read music! - HI, I have been a worship leader for many years. You have hit somwthing that I discovered about 5 years ago. When I burn a CD for my worship team to listen to and to practice to. The instructions are that this is a copy of another artists work. DO NOT MAKE COPIES AND GIVE THEN TO YOUR FRIENDS!! But what I discovered is that once the worship learned the song on the CD, almost all of them went out and bought the CD plus they bought other CD's by that artist. Amazing, isn't it how many CD were bought just because someone received a sample of some music.
Keep writing your music. If I decide to use it for a Cd that I am going to sell. You will be that first to know. Thank you for your talent, and thank you for allowing others the share in your gift. May God continue bless you. Worship Bob
