Free Smiley Face Afghan Square Crochet Pattern

Materials:
Small amounts worsted weight yarn in yellow and black
Size H crochet hook

Size: 3 1/2" square

Gauge: 2 rnds dc=1"

Rnd 1: With yellow, make ring (or ch 4, join w sl st in 1st ch to form ring. I prefer the "magic ring" method), ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join w sl st in top of ch 3, pull ring closed (12 dc).
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same dc, 2 dc in next dc and in each dc around, join as before, fasten off (24 dc).
Rnd 3: Join black w sl st in 1st dc, ch 3, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc in same dc), dc in next 5 dc, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next dc, dc in next 5 dc, rep from * around, join as before, fasten off, weave in ends
(36 dc).

Embroider mouth as shown in photo. Make 2 French knots for eyes.
