Free Smiley Face Trinket Box Crochet Pattern

Materials:
1 oz. yellow worsted weight yarn
Small amount black worsted weight yarn
Size H crochet hook

Size: 1" tall, 2 3/4" in diameter

Gauge: 2 rnds dc=1"

Bottom:

Rnd 1: Make ring (or ch 4, join w sl st in 1st ch to form ring. I prefer the "magic ring" method), ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join w sl st in top of ch 3, pull ring closed (12 dc).
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same dc, 2 dc in next dc and in each dc around, join as before (24 dc).
Rnd 3: Working in back loops only, ch 3, dc in next dc and in each dc around, join as before (24 dc).
Rnd 4: Working in both loops, ch 3, dc in next dc and in each dc around, join as before, fasten off (24 dc).

Lid:

Rnds 1-2: Rep Rnds 1-2 of Bottom.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in same dc, 2 sc in next dc, *sc in next dc, 2 sc in next dc, rep from * around, join w sl st in 1st sc, fasten off (36 sc).

Weave in ends. Embroider mouth as shown in photos. Work 2 French knots for eyes (or use wiggle eyes for children age 3 and up). Weave in ends.

Place lid on bottom. Smile. Enjoy!
