Free Tarot Readings
Online Tarot Cards: As good as the real thing?
Can "virtual" cards ever be as good as the old fashioned paper kind?
This is a question that I've thought about a lot. Why? Well, mostly because when I'm at work I find myself checking "virtual" free tarot readings at least once a day. (Something to do while I eat lunch, mostly). And frankly, the idea of doing a complicated tarot spread on my desk just doesn't really seem like it would be that appealing. So I find myself glued to free tarot readings sites like ifate.com and I'm at the point now that I don't really see that much difference.
On the downside: Ok, so you can't touch the cards. That's a bummer. And for those who feel that the cards are conveying energy between the fingers and the cards -- then I guess that's that and there's not much more convincing I can do.
On the upside: There are still some really great interfaces out there for detecting a "pull" from certain cards. Both tarot.com and ifate.com have very slick systems for letting users "draw" specific cards from the deck. This is the key to an online tarot site. Also, ifate.com allows you to get a "spreadcode" from the free tarot reading which lets you save your reading and come back later. ..And it's free... which is just fantastic for a girl on a budget like me :)
What kind of free online tarot sites aren't that good? Well -- since I'm being critical I won't name names. But let's just say that any free tarot reading site that just 'randomly' gives you the cards is a bunch of baloney. To me it's all about selecting the cards by 'hand' (or by 'mouse' in this case).
To my knowledge the only free tarot reading site that's free and lets you select cards by hand is (my favorite) ifate.com. Although to be fair, tarot.com has some free areas that are pretty good too.
What are the best free tarot card reading websites?
- ifate.com - iFate is by far the best online tarot site in my opinion. It's very popular and is beautifully done with lots of flash animations. It has a beautiful interface which lets you select cards by 'hand'. (I think it's important to feel a 'pull' when you draw cards). And it uses the classic cards drawn by Pamela Coleman Smith back in 1909. (Personally, I don't need any other newer artwork on my tarot cards). If I used only one online tarot cards site, ifate.com would be it.
- llewellyn's - I like this site except it doesn't let you choose cards by hand. It does have a nice selection of multiple decks. But it all feels too random.
- facade - This is a classic. It's been around for a long time. But it's ...well.. ugly. There I said it. It's hideous. Did the world run out of web designers at some point?
- tarot.com - I almost feel like this site shouldn't be included in this list because its a "pay" site that requires money to use. But it is the biggest, and it does have a couple free areas. It's a bit annoying to use though (if you're looking for a free site) because it always cuts you off and tries to get you to pay. Still, a nicely done site.
- lotus tarot - This is a nice site, but again, it uses random numbers to do the card drawing instead of letting the user pick the cards. Its a site done by a well known tarot reader and the descriptions of what each card means are quite nice.
