Free Hosting For A Wordpress Blog

This is a full step-by-step guide on how to host your wordpress blog for free.

Step 1: Go to Free Hostia: domain hosting and web hosting service and signup for a free account (bannerless) - it's totally free and the main features are:

* 250MB Webspace
* 5GB Bandwidth per month
* And 2 domains can be hosted

Step 2: Choose your domain. You have 3 options:

* You can transfer a domain you own
* Register a new domain with freehostia
* Or use a freehostia domain

Step 3: To install Wordpress, you'll need to create a database. Choose Mysql Databases from CP Home, and give a name to the DB like wordpress. Type in a password to use with the new database and click create. You have now created the MySQL DB needed to setup wordpress.

Step 4: Go back to the home of your CP, and choose Elefante Free Scripts under the Web Tools directory. Choose Wordpress and you'll be taken to the Wordpress installation page. Press Install Wordpress link from that page and you'll be given a chance to do some customization. Read on:

IMPORTANT: When the installation wizard loads to install wordpress there is an option called 'Path' with the text '/wordpress' in the box beside it. It's advised you delete the wordpress bit and rename it '/' so visitors can access your site straight from your URL. Also make note of your username and password so you can login to your blog.

Step 5: Download FileZilla - The free FTP solution. This is great for uploading themes and plugins to your blog. In order to upload files using FileZilla you need to know your hostname, username and password. They are:

Hostname: your URL - for this site it would be thefreestuffguide.com
Username: This is your freehostia username you got when you set up the hosting
Password: This is your password you got when you set up the hosting

Connect using the 'Quickconnect' button. Now you can upload themes and plugins to your blog.

For themes and plugins go here: http://wordpress.org/extend/

Upload plugins to the folder: wp-content/plugins/
Upload themes to the folder: wp-content/themes/

That's wordpress installed and ready to go!
