World Internet Summit 2008

As I said above, I attended the World Internet Summit in Sydney Australia, in March 2008 and it has been a turning point for me in my online business.

Whilst I had been serious about building my online business to ensure my families ongoing financial security after attending the World Internet Summit, I was in deadly earnest. The information I received from the Experts talks and the networking that I did, gave me a whole new perspective on the world.

When you attend a live event, you not only get very valuable information from the speakers (and trust me there are lot's of "ah ha" moments), you also get to network with other Internet Marketers and meet your "Gurus", they get to meet you and the "buzz" you get will help buoy you over the next few months.

I have now been to two live seminars since March and can only rave about how great they are.

The beauty of it is, that each time I go to an event I learn something new, then I go home and implement that new thing. By the time I get to my next event, my mind is wired slightly differently and.... I learn something else.

The biggest single issue is not getting too overwhelmed with all of the information that is provided. I generally takes what 'resonates' with me and work with that. I believe I'll hear what I need to hear, when I need to hear it!

When you work online, live events become even more important because you can keep up the human contact. It is very easy to become disconnected from the human side of the business with only your computer as a companion.

There are live events happening all of the time, all you need to do is register and go - so just do it!

When trying to build your online business, or any business, there are a couple of ways to go about doing it.

You can read a whole heap of books and then put into practice what you read. The drawback here is that you are interpreting what you read and it's up to you to find the resources that the book details. Whilst this approach works for a number of business owners, there are a lot that just find themselves confused about what resources to use and the exact implementation to take.

Another approach is to guess. You look at what other businesses are doing and then try to reverse engineer their results to suit your business. Sometimes this work, but most often it doesn't because you really don't see what happens "behind the scenes" to make that scenario work.

Many people attend a class to try to learn how to build and market their business. Classes are good but the same issues that plague "book learning" can effect class learning. Sheer frustration at finding the right resources to implement the class learning leaves many business owners cold and unsuccessful.

One of the best ways I have found to learn is to find a mentor, or a coach, who is already successful and continues to be successful, and follow their laid out plan. A good mentor will have their journey to success laid out in a step by step process, with the right resources available to help you succeed in a shorter timeframe.

If getting a coach or mentor is so effective, why aren't more business people doing it? I believe that many business people just don't know where to find the right coach or mentor. If they do find the right person, a business person can often feel that the price being asked is just to high and their business can't afford it.

Finding the right person, is a matter of "looking in the right spots". Become a member of your local business association or attend live events. Most speakers at live events have a coaching program that provides you with everything you need - all you need to do is approach them and ask.

What about the price? Add up the amount of time you will spend trying the different options, attending classes and buying various resources and tools. Then look at the cost of a coaching package from an expert with a step by step plan to follow.... Finally, look at how long it will take you to earn the same amount of income from both approaches. I can assure you that taking the coaching program ends up being far more cost effective and yields quicker and more returns than any other method you can apply.

If you're not sure about the value a domain expert can give you, attend a live event and speak to them first, then make a decision. Not only will you meet lot's of like minded people, you will gets lot's of valuable information that you can apply immediately.
