Little (real name Aurelie Nguyen) is so cute -- I just want to put her in my pocket. Most of the French songs on her debut album are much softer and dare I say, twee. Little's self-titled debut album is a delight. From the funky, "Je Veux Des Violons" to the sparse soundscapes of "Zzz," every song is a treat.

Pauline Croze: Famous French Female Singer
The French Fiona Apple
Pauline Croze
Amazon Price: $25.97 (as of 09/08/2010)![]()
When I first heard Pauline Croze, I kept thinking it sounded like something really familiar. Then it hit me: She sounds like Fiona Apple. Pauline's got an awesome, textured voice, and her songs have a tinge of melancholy even though they're sung with verve. This album includes the hit, "T'es Beau."
Sandrine Kiberlain
Famous French Female Singer
Manquait Plus Qu'Ca
Amazon Price: $17.35 (as of 09/08/2010)![]()
Sandrine's debut album has a classic French sound while still remaining modern. Joe Sixpack says, "This is a gorgeous, alluring pop album from French actress Sandrine Kiberlain... This is a great set of mellow, richly layered music, with a vibe to it that is completely unique and deeply seductive. The album was produced by French pop star Alain Souchon, who has a nice knack for bringing out catchy melodies. I've listened to fair amount of French pop and this is one of my favorite albums. Highly recommended!"
Anais
Famous French Female Singer
Très bizarre video, but I looove the song "Christina" by Anäis, and her whole album, The Cheap Show.

Carla Bruni
The Most Famous French Female Singer Today
Before she became the first lady of France, Carla Bruni was (and still is) a beloved French singer. Her two best albums are Quelqu'un m'a dit (Someone Told Me) and Comme si de rien n'etait (As if Nothing Happened).
Quelqu'Un M'a Di (Reis)
Amazon Price: $11.98 (as of 09/08/2010)![]()
Carla Bruni's debut album. Mademoiselle says, "Carla Bruni has one of the most delicious and sensual voices I've ever heard. The songs on this album are little more than that gorgeous voice against the light strumming of her acoustic guitar. It feels so intimate to listen to, as if she's whispering these songs live right in front of you. The lyrics are absolutely beautiful as well, like poetry."

- Hey Sultans Elephant. No apologies necessary. That's what this page is for -- talking about our favorite female French singers! I think you might be talking about "Desert" by Emilie Simon. If that's it, you can get it on iTunes.

- Hi,
Great article, apologies if this is not the correct place to ask, but I am trying to find a female french pop singer that I heard a few years back. All I remember was her video was very gothic and she appeared as a puppet on strings and/or a doll and had a really interesting sound. Thanks in advance.

- Very interesting I have never been to France but I do love Fiona Apple and am always looking for similar talent plus I never knew who Johnny Depp's wife was so I would say even if this doesn't relate to you directly this is interesting for everyone 5 stars!

- Thanks JewelRiver. Yes, yes, if you like Fiona Apple, definitely check out Pauline Croze's album. My interest in French music was piqued by going to France, but it's definitely not necessary. Thanks to the internet, everyone can listen to and shop for French music from wherever they are.

- Thanks Photahsiamirabel. Rose is one of my favorites. Claire Diterzi definitely has some Kate Bush going on, now that you mention it.
