I was googling for Jane Austen fanfiction that I couldn't find anywhere, and I found Squidoo. I still didn't find what I was looking for though, so I decided to make my own lens that would help others finding stuff. It was my first lens. I have 11 now! :D

I e was tooling around the link referral forum when I first heard about Squidoo. And, THANK GOD that I did! Yep, a guy was going on and on about how you could get listed on the 1st page of Google - and, he's right. My lens, Detroit Caterers ... , is in the #1 position (it's Valentine's Day 2009). I "get it" now - and there will be absolutely no looking back. I'm so very grateful!

I noticed that links from Squidoo.com were appearing on the first page of Google results frequently. I didn't know what a Squidoo lens was, and decided to take a quick peek. The "Build Your Lens" button captured me immediately and I haven't been seen in the real World often since that day...

I found Squidoo while searching on Entrepreneur, I was looking for places to promote my website, I enjoy Squidoo, and have created 3 lens and soon to be on #4. I think I have a good lens for selling my products. Although it is coming along slowly I post my Squidoo Lens everywhere I can.

I found about Squidoo through one of my friend. I remember the day when he send me his referral link for me to join squidoo. It was October 2008. Then I decided to choose recent inventions as my subject and started collecting amazing information about latest inventions. Putting it on my lens, connecting to other great lensmasters that's all what I did. Now when I am getting more than 200 visitors per day and also earned my first online income through it, I simply love Squidoo. Recently I have started a new lens about online paid surveys that is doing very good just after 15 days of its creation. I really appreciate suggestions from other lensmasters so that I can improve it just like my first lens.

I found Squidoo while I was on zazzle, I was reading a post to promote my zazzle products, someone had mentioned Squidoo! I came and had a look and thought I am no writer, I could never do this, but I looked around and thought nobody knows me, I WILL GIVE IT A TRY! It has been
liberating for me, I had recently lost a pet of 12 years, and thought I would do a private tribute to Angel, I wrote, I cried, I wrote I cried, when I WAS DONE I got the nerve to click publish, I HAVE TO SAY, I had so many caring people comment, I feel very fortunate to be a part of such a caring community.

It's easy to get around, but sometimes Squidoo works slowly for me.

The hardest thing for me has nothing to do with Squidoo. What's hard is staying on track; I'm so excited about so many subjects, and making the lenses that it's not even funny! Focus. Focus. Focus.

I didn't find it hard at all to get around Squidoo! The workshop is very easy to manuever, and it's easy to jump around the site and find new lenses to read. There are many tutorials that helped me get going and make my lenses look better, along with tips on what the Giant Squid Reviewers are looking for.

Squidoo is very user-friendly and there are many tutorials to learn all the basics quickly. One tutorial links to another, which links to another, and it only took a few hours of reading to learn how to maximize lens modules. The SquidU forum is packed full of helpful lensmasters and community leaders who have no problem lending an extra tentacle. :-)

I found the Squidoo interfaces fairly intuitive but need more explanations and better tutorials. The help function was not very helpful. The search return were disappointing especially because of the low volume of returned results. The forums were also hard to target specific search information.

Not at all; but I came to Squidoo with a hard earned knowledge of basic HTML & the Internets already.

...gagtoes? What kind of security word is that?

I did not find getting around Squidoo difficult at all. What was astonishing to me was the wealth of information available! One of my first thoughts was "how did I not know about this site earlier?" I still have much to learn, plus there are so many excellent lens about every subject I am interested in. I am still getting my feet wet!

I like that I found a place where I can get the end result(s) that I have dreamed of (helping people/getting the word out there about my business, which go hand-in-hand), and the only thing that it costs me is my time. It doesn't get any better than this! Well ... except that it works - and is really fun, too!

I love the sense of community at Squidoo. Lensmasters go far out of their way to help out on the forums and by making such helpful tutorial based lenses. Squidoo makes it incredibly easy to make a great lens that will actually be found!

I like Squidoo because it is dedicated to providing a solid platform with high-quality content on a diverse range of subjects. The community is welcoming, open-minded, and willing to give you positive feedback to improve your lenscrafting skills on any topic. It's very rewarding to create lenses that you are passionate about, read amazing lenses created by other interesting lensmasters, share comments, have your lenses ranked, and gain friendships with many Squids along the way...

Many small things like allowing to choose a longer excerpt in a blog feed, or the mentioned earlier star rating system.

    TheGreenerMe Jan 28, 2009 @ 8:24 am | delete
Some of the Squidoo sister sites like "Best Ever" have low, low traffic and load a little bit slow.
  • Reply
    WebSpinstress Jan 21, 2009 @ 1:41 pm | delete
If I had to pick one feature that could be improved, it would be the star ratings system. Some of my best lenses have most of the traffic pulled from outside sources, but visitors without a Squidoo account are not able to rate lenses. However, I know there may not be a solution for this as it leaves a wide gap for playing the system...

The most frustrating parts of lens building was the fact that there's not enough support for using HTML and CSS. When editing lenses, the save function rewrites the code and really messes up the layout by adding end tags>where they don't belong. A great deal of the tutorials aren't clear as to how to use HTML and CSS and the very limited support for these layout features. It's very hard to get Google page rank for a lens even if it's optimized for the search engines. There should be support for those that want to add Opt-In forms to their lenses. There's many ways that this can be done without compromising security by using IFrame. There should be support for RSS submission to the various RSS ping engines.

I guess is the traffic. Seems like Squidoo sometime do get slow respond in login and page reload. I guess is mainly due to high user rate.
