Was It Hard to Get Around Squidoo?

From the lens Fresh Squid Graduation Class October 2008.

What was the hardest? How you worked it out?

It's easy to get around, but sometimes Squidoo works slowly for me.

The hardest thing for me has nothing to do with Squidoo. What's hard is staying on track; I'm so excited about so many subjects, and making the lenses that it's not even funny! Focus. Focus. Focus.

I didn't find it hard at all to get around Squidoo! The workshop is very easy to manuever, and it's easy to jump around the site and find new lenses to read. There are many tutorials that helped me get going and make my lenses look better, along with tips on what the Giant Squid Reviewers are looking for.

Squidoo is very user-friendly and there are many tutorials to learn all the basics quickly. One tutorial links to another, which links to another, and it only took a few hours of reading to learn how to maximize lens modules. The SquidU forum is packed full of helpful lensmasters and community leaders who have no problem lending an extra tentacle. :-)

I found the Squidoo interfaces fairly intuitive but need more explanations and better tutorials. The help function was not very helpful. The search return were disappointing especially because of the low volume of returned results. The forums were also hard to target specific search information.

Not at all; but I came to Squidoo with a hard earned knowledge of basic HTML & the Internets already.

...gagtoes? What kind of security word is that?

I did not find getting around Squidoo difficult at all. What was astonishing to me was the wealth of information available! One of my first thoughts was "how did I not know about this site earlier?" I still have much to learn, plus there are so many excellent lens about every subject I am interested in. I am still getting my feet wet!

I stumbled my way around initially, and I still do so from time to time. Part of the problem may be my mindset. I'm used to navigating a website by using website conventions such as sitemaps, "About" pages, help and search functions. In Squidoo, these are handled by lenses written by different people. So that took some adjustment on my part.

It was easy enough to get started on a lens - but there is a lot to learn . There is plenty of very useful info but I also found good stuff by trial and error and not in the obvious places if that makes sense. I'm still having some difficulty with images despite having gone through some of the recommended lens. Have to get my password reset before I can post in the forum. I have posted before and got some good replies so I wouldn't hesitate to post there again.

Not really. I'm pretty good with the internet. I find that my problem is not investigating and trying things out enough because it took me forever to use squidU and the forum and lots of other things on here. But I get around just fine.

One of the great things about squidoo is the ease of maneuvering your tasks. I found it very easy to learn how to create a lens and when I found I needed help with something, there was support to help.

At first I thought so, but then I got on the forum, and found alot of the How To Lens'. Everyone in the forum is so willing to help and are so nice to the newbies. I also bought a couple of the Squidoo ebooks that are out there and read them before I started my first lens because at first I thought "I will never get this". However, in hindsight, you really don't "need" those to create your first lens, I guess for me they were like a security blanket.

It was not so hard to get around as it was to learn how to apply the modules and make the lenses aesthetically pleasing, though not overwhelming. I am still learning that skill.

I found it REALLY hard! I was totally new to all this and didn't even know what a link was let alone how to create one! And all the html stuff was total gobbledegook! And I didn't understand modules! It took me about a week to create my first lens. I found the forum really helpful. I was able to ask questions and get answers. I still don't know what all the modules are but at least now I know enough to be able to create a lens and can just keep learning new things as I go along.

It's been a steep learning curve for me. Lots of information to go through, navigation discoveries, creative techniques, etc. But now that I'm no longer a stranger to it all, it's become much easier and the world of possibilities has now become apparent.

It was easy to get started and when I had problems there were plenty of people willing to help me out. Squidooers are a great group. They know how to swim together in the same pond.

Not difficult at all. My biggest problem was getting into the forum and trying not to do something wrong there. Forums frighten me a bit because I always feel like an outsider, although everyone here has been nothing but helpful. I still haven't found out how to make links to my lenses as a signature for the forum...???

I found it pretty straightforward to get around and to make my first lens. Other things I have found out about by reading other lenses and then following through the links. I know that I still have lots to learn, and there probably are a number of things that I could do with a lens that I haven't discovered yet. I have found the forums really useful and have posted a couple of times. So far, the advice I have received has worked well for me and I have learned from others who have trodden the same path before me.

Not difficult at all! The only wrinkle I've found is that it seems that I can only find some modules in an A-Z search, not by searching the module categories. I still have a feeling that there are a lot more modules out there that I could be using, but some of the explanations of them could be a little stronger.

While I'm not very geeky, it didn't take me too long to figure out the basics in Squidooing. I'm still wanting to learn a whole lot more, but everyone in the forum & SquidU, among others, are so very helpful. I was even able to learn some basic HTML to add some flair to my lenses from other Lensmasters. I'm still trying to upgrade my lenses regularly, for higher ranking, and to pop up in more search engines. I know, I know...I need to blog! ;-)
