Mushrooms are so GOOD for you!!
When I met my husband he introduced me to portabella mushrooms and my goodness I was hooked. So for the pass nine years I eat mushrooms on a regular base. I love them raw, on pizza or stuffed. NOW I love them fried and cannot get enough of them.
I knew I needed to learn how to make them so I did some research and found a few recipes but nothing was really appealing to me. Since I was involved in the Geek Cookbook Review, I have been hooked on using pastry flour so I started to play around with learning how to fry mushrooms using the pastry flour as the first step.
When my husband walked in from work one day and seen me making these mushrooms he asked if I was double dipping them so I guess I was without realizing it. But trust me they are really good. Mine do not have extra salt on them but I bet they would be extra good if you added a little to the flour.
I hope you enjoy this recipe. If you decide to try it please come back and let me know how you liked it.

Pots to deep fry in
Fried Mushrooms

I use the same ingredients and the same method to make: Fried Onion Rings (which my husband loves) Fried Yellow Squash and Zucchini.
I also save my oil by straining it through cheese cloth each time I use it for the mushrooms and squashes. The last time I use that batch of oil for the week I will cook the onion rings. I never save the oil after cooking onion rings. I also only use canola oil to cook with.
Ingredients
- One Container of Mushroom
- 2 Tablespoons of Pastry Flour
- One Egg beaten and a little water added to it
- 1/2 cup of unsalted bread crumbs
- canola oil
- salt
- seasonings (optional)
Instructions
Gather together a Quart Zip Lock baggie, dampened scot towel and all of your ingredients.
Wipe the mushrooms with the dampened scot towel to remove any dirt. Drop into the zip lock bag and add your pastry flour. Shake the baggie real good coating all of the mushrooms and place them on a plate. Add the unsalted bread crumbs to the baggie. Beat your egg and add a little water (about a tablespoon) and dip the coated mushrooms into the egg mixture. Place a few at a time back into the baggie with the remaining flour and bread crumbs and shake them until they are coated.
Heat up some canola oil in a pot and when it is hot drop a few mushrooms at a time into oil. Cook approximately 3 minutes and drain on scot towel. I like my mushrooms a little brown so I cook mine until they look good to me. But by cooking for at least 3 minutes you will know your mushrooms are done.
You can season these mushrooms with a little salt and pepper, pepper and Parmesan and Romano Cheese, Mrs. Dash seasoning mix, the choice is your's. I personally sprinkle mine with a little pepper and dip them into Spicy Ranch Dressing. YUMMY!
As odd as this sounds coming from a Portabella Mushroom Addict, I prefer to have fried Button Mushroom instead. To both me and my husband the White Button Mushrooms have more flavor when fried.

- I surely do love mushrooms ... particularly portobello ... fried, broiled, or right out of the package on my salad. It's a bit of earthy heaven!

- Mmm! These fried mushrooms sound and look incredible. One of the fave ways to do them here in our kitchen is stuffed and baked. Just added mushrooms, lemon, bread crumbs and sausage to the shopping list ;)

- I've tried mushrooms before because my husband loves them so much. But just can't take the slimy feel in my mouth, Then Rachel Ray said "You've just got to try Portebellos" And now you are saying it. I guess I'll try again. You are usually right about stuff. :)
