Mushrooms are so GOOD for you!!

I love mushrooms, but it has not always been that way. I remember my grandmother adding them to food and because they were all slimmy and gross I would pick them out. But than I started eating them on salads during an eight year journey of being vegetarian. I also loved them on homemade pizza's. BUT then I took a college biology course and stopped eating mushrooms again (for reasons I will not mention).

When I met my husband he introduced me to portabella mushrooms and my goodness I was hooked. So for the pass nine years I eat mushrooms on a regular base. I love them raw, on pizza or stuffed. NOW I love them fried and cannot get enough of them.

I knew I needed to learn how to make them so I did some research and found a few recipes but nothing was really appealing to me. Since I was involved in the Geek Cookbook Review, I have been hooked on using pastry flour so I started to play around with learning how to fry mushrooms using the pastry flour as the first step.

When my husband walked in from work one day and seen me making these mushrooms he asked if I was double dipping them so I guess I was without realizing it. But trust me they are really good. Mine do not have extra salt on them but I bet they would be extra good if you added a little to the flour.

I hope you enjoy this recipe. If you decide to try it please come back and let me know how you liked it.

Fried Mushrooms

As odd as this sounds coming from a Portabella Mushroom Addict, I prefer to have fried Button Mushroom instead. To both me and my husband the White Button Mushrooms have more flavor when fried.

Mushrooms and Nutrition

Nutritional Facts: I cup of raw whole white mushrooms have 21 calories.

Mushrooms provide many of the nutritional properties of produces as well as some commonly attributes in meat, beans and grains. They are low in calories, fat-free, cholesterol-free and low in sodium. They provide us with selenium, potassium, riboflavin (which helps to maintain healthy red blood cells), niacin, vitamin D, vitamin B-6, dietary fiber, protein, vitamin C, iron, Zinc and manganese.

**B Vitamins including riboflavin, niacin and pantothenic acid help to provide energy by breaking down proteins, fats and carbohydrates, as well as playing a important role in the nervous system.**

I have read on some sites that eating mushrooms also helps with weight lost and maintain good general health.

I surely do love mushrooms ... particularly portobello ... fried, broiled, or right out of the package on my salad. It's a bit of earthy heaven!

Really nice. I'll have to try without eggs though! Just featured it on my stuffed mushrooms recipe lens.

Mmm! These fried mushrooms sound and look incredible. One of the fave ways to do them here in our kitchen is stuffed and baked. Just added mushrooms, lemon, bread crumbs and sausage to the shopping list ;)

I've tried mushrooms before because my husband loves them so much. But just can't take the slimy feel in my mouth, Then Rachel Ray said "You've just got to try Portebellos" And now you are saying it. I guess I'll try again. You are usually right about stuff. :)
