With FriendFeed you can find out what your friends are doing on the web. Share discoveries of movies, videos, websites, and photographs! You can also make rooms to discuss your interests and endeavors in. You could even make a private room for everyone in your family to hang out in, sharing web activities and family fun times.

Make comments on FriendFeed

Beneath every entry on every FriendFeed page (yours or your friends) there's a comment link. Feel free to make comments on anything you have posted, or anything your friends post.

Make friends on FriendFeed

When you add a friend on FriendFeed, you can also create a custom list to categorize that person in. Here you see I'm including Mac Creevy in a custom list for Squidoo because I recognize him from this site.

The link for my Squidoo friends list is in the top-left corner of every FriendFeed page I view.

Make rooms on FriendFeed

You can create a private room just for your family. You can create a public one for any topic dear to your heart. FriendFeed rooms give you and your contacts a place to put feeds and comments that are limited topic-wise, to focus on just one group or thing.

One of my favorite FriendFeed rooms is Social Media.

Make a newsroom on FriendFeed

...my topic is Squidoo!

Here's my news room: Squidoo News.

1. Create a new room called "[Your Topic] News" or something similar that works well for you.

2. Import blog feeds from blogs on your topic.

Sample blog feed urls:
Blogger.Com: http://BLOGNAME.blogspot.com
WordPress: http://www.BLOGNAME.com/feed

3. Create Google news feeds on your topic.

Here's a sample Google News feed url:
http://news.google.com/news?q=YOUR-TOPIC&ie=UTF-8

4. Create a YouTube feed on your topic.

Here's a sample YouTube feed url:
http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/videos?vq=YOUR-TOPIC

5. Invite people to join you in the room for conversation on the news of the day.

Add Video to Your News Room

...use a YouTube feed!

There are many ways to incorporate YouTube into your room. Here's what I used for my Bigfoot room:

http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/videos?orderby=updated&vq=bigfoot

I placed this into my room using the 'add blog rss' feature. Works great! Now if I want to see every video on YouTube tagged 'bigfoot' I go to my Bigfoot News Room and click on the little orange rss symbol that corresponds to the YouTube feed. I get a list of all the Bigfoot videos and can watch them right there on my FriendFeed News Room page!

For more ideas on using YouTube, go to YouTube Feeds.

From the jacket flap:
In order to use the Internet to its full marketing potential, executives must open their minds to new possibilities, embrace social change, and rethink best practices. Rather than broadcast messages to audiences, savvy marketers will participate in, organize, and encourage social networks to which people want to belong, striking up a dialog with and between customers. Networking sites like MySpace, Facebook, and even Flickr are the perfect forums for this new dialog; Marketing to the Social Web shows you how to tap into it.

Yes, there are advantages to participating in FriendFeed.

CleanerLife says:

People are buzzing about FriendFeed all of a sudden! I've been adding more friends, and using it to enhance my Twitter experience since most of the people I'm following on FF are also on Twitter, and they are sending their tweets to their FF account.

seedplanter says:

It sure can't hurt! I've registered and gathered a few friends. I like the convenience of having all my eggs in one basket--it seems like it'll be a big time saver. I had no idea FriendFeed existed until this lens. Thanks, Linda.

Jewelsofawe says:

I am not sure what I think though I do have it, I don't use it much

Gandree says:

Definitely. Friendfeed helps to keep you from being overwhelmed by the social sites. It's fun to see what you and your friends have recommended.

No, it is a waste of time.

My Friend Feed

...the last five entries

This should give you an idea of what Friend Feed does. It collects information from many other feeds and puts them together on a page where you can make comments about them. Other people who see your feed can make comments there too.

By the way, if you want to add your Friend Feed to your Squidoo lenses, this is done with the RSS module. At the bottom of the Friend Feed page you'll see an orange RSS link. Copy that link, then import it to your Squidoo RSS module.
