Uncomplicated, Friendly Hosting for Everyone

Or, Hosting for the Rest of Us.

Choosing a Web host for your personal or business website has become one of the most daunting undertakings on the Internet in recent years. Do a search on Google for 'web hosting' and you'll be rewarded with dozens of directories and sites wherein hosts are "rated" and listed according to those ratings. Even on Squidoo a search will turn up dozens of results. Further inspection, however, reveals these so-called "top-rated hosts" are paying to be listed in those directories. That can't be fair and impartial, can it? Nope.

Then there are the web hosting forums where hosting services are discussed and compared and where people ask for help in choosing a service. Again, the biggest hosting services pay to advertise on these sites and receive top billing. Many of the posters on these sites consist of one of two types: hosts looking to promote their own site, and scammers looking to take advantage of free or nearly free promotions. Some of the people lurking there are from overseas, out to prey on unsuspecting small businesses in order to set up or attempt to set up illegal operations. The moderators on these forums are fascinating in and of themselves: little beaureacrats wielding their power like sledgehammers over the posters' heads. Ouch! if you cross them! Not very friendly. Things can get ugly.

Then, there's the problem of the hosting companies themselves. Some have horrible downtime. Others have little to no support. Yet others keep your domain name when you leave. There are many good, even great, hosts out there, including some of the mega-mammoth behemoths. But why get lost in a crowd of gazillions of customers? I don't know about you, but I like calling my hosting company, getting personal attention, and being on a first-name basis with them. Kinda like family, ya know?

Wanted: A Warm, Friendly, Neighborhood Kind of Host!

If you're happy with your hosting service, great! But, if not, or if you just want a change, it's difficult to know where to start in your search.

The big guys are just too big. The little guys are unknown. What to do? It's best, in my humble opinion, to go with a smaller host, but one which has been around awhile and which offers a guarantee. This way, you won't be lost in the crowd; neither will you be out any hard-earned dollars if things don't work out. Reading the Terms of Use and checking out their support first is also a good idea.

Well said! It's so difficult to find a good and reliable Web host these days. There are so many scammers. If you have time, kindly check out my friend's Spanish site on Web hosting. By the way, very cute cat pics! I love Calvin & Hobbes too!
