TRUE FRIENDS LOVE YOU FOREVER

I'm blessed with friendships of the truest kind. Looking back on every transition or trauma in life, at least one friend was there lending support.

Whatever I need, whenever I need it, friends swoop in to prop me up or help me celebrate.

This is my paean to the friends who love me. All are important to me. I love my friends!!

T

When A Friend Dies.....

The death of a friend is equivalent to the loss of a limb.
----- German Proverb

BILL

Gone but not forgotten

Several years ago I began exchanging emails with Bill. He lived in a Nursing Home in the south of England. His body had been ravaged by cerebral palsy but Bill's mind was sharp and curious. His sense of humor was witty, dry and delightful. The telly, computer, and email correspondence were his connection to a big, fascinating world.

I loved Bill's humor, intelligence, and fiery spirit. He lived with constant pain but refused to knuckle under to it. I admired that about him.

Wherever you are, maybe you know the answers to all those mysteries that intrigued you. This is for you, Bill!! I miss you

MY PHILOSOPHY ON FRIENDSHIP

"All the wealth in the world could not buy you a friend nor pay you for the loss of one."

SAM

A Long Time Linchpin of My Life

Sam is a beautiful, spirited woman, fiercely loyal to her friends and devoted to her family.

I met Sam when she was a young nurse and I was the evening shift supervisor in the small community hospital where we both lived. In rural hospitals, nurses have to wear many hats out of necessity. We cared for medical, surgical, labor and delivery, post partum, and emergency room patients. Some evenings, we ran non stop for eight hours or more. I could always count on Sam to take care of business when I had to be in another part of the hospital. I admired and respected her abilities at first, and later came to love her dearly as a friend.

When I had surgery, Sam was there at my bedside to ease me through it. When my mother died late one December night.....Sam was there. No matter what she might be juggling in her own life, Sam is always there when I need her. Our lives are so completely intertwined, we'll never unravel them. Nor will we ever want to.

With or without a photo, Sam is my friend for life.

The Proverbial Truth

Love is blind. Friendship closes its eyes.
My friends certainly close their eyes to my foibles and love me anyway!!

Eldeen

No Matter How Tough Life Gets, Eldeen Stands Firm

This photo shows Eldeen on the right and another of her friends on the left, dressed in their Red Hat Society finery. Whatever Eldeen does, she throws herself into it with gusto!!

I was mired down in one of life's rough patches when Eldeen moved to town. She was hired as the new Director of Nursing at the hospital where I worked. I liked her immediately. She had a brisk, no nonsense way about her but lurking beneath the surface was a sweet, loving spirit.

Like Sam, she is fiercely loyal to the people she befriends. I'm blessed to be one of the people she loves unconditionally. Life has handed Eldeen a bushel of lemons, but she takes them in stride. Always, she focuses on the positive and gives her best on the job and in her private life. She has a zany sense of humor and an altruistic philosophy. Eldeen will always do what's right, honest and fair, no matter what life dishes out in return.

I'd like to do something special for her, something wonderful and memorable, in honor of International Friendship Month. Including her in this lens is the best I can manage.

Our Differences Enrich Us

Our friends don't have to be just like us. One of friendship's blessings is the joyful variations our friends bring to our lives. I see them like pieces of a colorful puzzle. We're all incomplete without each other.

My Britbunny Pals

Bill's Sister and Her Husband

I loved Myra and Ross immediately. In this age of modern technology, I know many of us have friends we met through the computer but never face to face. My dear britbunny pals from the south of England are such friends.

Myra and I began corresponding during one of Bill's many serious illnesses. Like her brother, Myra has a delightful sense of humor and zest for life. She and Ross enrich my life in so many ways, I can't begin to list them all. We share our worlds through words and photos. Ross attaches the photos from their day trippies so Myra can share them with me. Both are thoughtful, compassionate people. Myra is swift to lend support and encouragement in trying times and I try to do the same for her.

I call them "my dear britbunny pals" because they are so sweet. I'd love to travel to England to meet them, but even if that doesn't happen they'll always be my friends.

I think you can tell by their photo the true heart of these two people from the other side of the pond.

I Try To Live By This Rule

"To have a friend, you must be a friend."

Friendship is a priveleged interaction, a blessing.
I may fall short sometimes but my friends pretend not to notice!!

Jan & Lars

Opposites Attract

I went to High School with Jan and Lars. Both worked at that same hospital where Sam, Eldeen and I worked. They'd had some tough breaks before life threw them together. Both are beautiful, talented people and the sort of friends who remain friends through the passing years. I say opposites attract here because in almost every noticeable way, they are the opposite of me:

They are stylish. I'm rather dowdy.
They love to travel. I stick close to home.
They have many varied interests and an active social life. I don't.

They don't see me as I see myself. They see my smile, my heart, and nurture the part of me they love. That's what friends do.

One Final Word....

"It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

I may have overworked the being stupid part, but my friends love me anyway.

K.K.

long time friend and tech advisor :))

K.K. and my sister Jeanne were friends in High School and beyond. Back in those olden golden days, we three shared a love of dancing. Every Saturday night you'd find us at wedding dances or the nearest rock and roll club event, dancing the night away. Our transportation was Malcolm the Falcon, my first car.

K.K. is an avid reader, an intelligent woman, a hard worker, and top notch friend.
Most of the techy type things I do would never get done without her.

Tell me about your friends, or comment on mine.
