Disc Golf: Key Terms
The Basket: Once the disc lands here the hold is over. Also known as: the pin, the pole hole.
Throw: Merely the act of propelling the disc towards the basket. Throws must be made with one hand, and there are three different types of throws.
Lie: The spot where the disc comes to a rest. Also what you tell you tell overweight women when they ask how their butt looks in a particular dress.
Drive: A throw off the designated tee area or fairway designed to go maximum distance.
Approach: Usually the second shot of the pole that aims to get you within putting distance.
Putt: A shot made within 10 meters of the basket.
Par: Each hole has a designated number of shots that it should take a scratch player to complete the hole. Usually this is however many throws it takes to get within putting distance + 2 putts.
Ace: When a throw makes it into the basket in one throw. This occurs more often in disc golf than in regular golf, but is still quite the feat.
The Circle: Ten meters in radius with the basket as the center.
Hyzer: The disc flight tendenacy to turn counter to its rotation.
Anhyzer: Forcing the disk to turn in the same direction as it's rotation.
Snap: The moment of release of the disc to maximize spin.

I definitely think it's a fun hobby, and a great way to get a tan and have a few beers with your friends during the summer months, but I'm inclined to agree that it's not really a 'sport' -- of course you'd be hard pressed to convince me ultimate is as well...

- I love playing it. When it hits 115 degrees out here, we try to play at night. You gotta watch out for the cactus and Chupacabara. Thanks for the great links on the sport.

- Wow, never knew there was such a huge, obsessive world of frisbee golfers out there. Amazing. I also had no clue that one would want several different frisbees for a game of it. Cool lens!
