About The Frisky Frolics

This wily, five-piece, ukulele-driven troupe specializes in long-forgotten musical gems of the 1920-30's. Self-described Tin Pan Alley Troubadours, they have lovingly mined through their 78 rpm record collections and come up with a lively and varied set of songs, combining favorite familiar standards such as Louise and Paper Moon, with obscure and novelty numbers like, Cake Eatin' Man and Nobody Knows What A Red-Head Mama Can Do. Voted "Best Band for the New Depression" by the Bay Guardian's Best of the Bay 2001 and; SF Weekly Wammie Nominees, the Frisky Frolics continually perform their "new" musical discoveries to a growing legion of enthusiastic fans from their home base, The Rite Spot in San Francisco. They have been the subject of an Indie documentary, "The Frisky Frolics: No Kitsch Intended" by Zolita Films and performed in the George Lucas documentary, Tin Pan Alley: Soundtrack of America which is being aired on History Channel International.
The image Having mastered a full repertoire of cheerful tunes, leader Rick Quisol a.k.a The Dimestore Dandy (vocals, kazoo and ukulele), Craig Ventresco (lead guitar), Pierre Laik (mandolin, backing vocals), Chris Green (bass, backing vocals) and Yanos Lustig (sax, piano) offer a unique opportunity to travel back to an era when the harsh realities of the Depression were temporarily softened by snappy tunes, lovely lyrics and the occasional ferocious kazoo solo. These dapper dressers and syncopating songsters have a knack for giving every composition an appropriate treatment. Some numbers are played ever so simply and sweetly while others will be swung with the hottest of rhythms.
