How children see a police officers status
It's pretty easy to see why children would want to dress up as police officers for Halloween. There are so many reasons that children would do this. For one, police officers have a kind of status in the public. They do a public service, and children observe this from an early age, which really propels them into searching for these child police costumes to wear for costume parties.
But we do need to take nice little opportunities like these, to talk to children about these topics that sort of float around the notions of what a police officer, what a public servant is, and if there might even be anything to be wary of with regards to authorities such as these. And you see this happening actually, in a lot classrooms. A teacher will notice their students wearing particular costumes for Halloween, to school. And what might happen is that the teacher will take the opportunity to invite the student to explain what the costume is that they're wearing.

So, that's definitely one aspect that should and could be appreciated about dressing up for Halloween, especially if the children that you're thinking of in this regard, have been posturing, hinting that they'd want to dress up as a professional. An opportunity to express themselves
It gives the child an early opportunity to express himself superficially, aesthetically, through fashion in a unique way. The child and the adults around that child have a unique opportunity to express and discuss what certain professions are all about. The sort of child police costumes that are sold in stores can make for a great excuse to talk about safety with that child. It could make for a great segue to talking about the virtues of telling the truth, serving others, and being selfless.
These are all interesting thoughts to keep with you as you make your way through your hunt and journey for a great and astounding costume for your child. Whether your child ends up with a nifty set of child police costumes or just one stellar costume, you'll have a great opportunity to converse and interact with that child in ways that aren't usually available and open to the two of you. Do take those opportunities to talk about the related subjects, such as safety with regards to the policeman uniform and costume; take the opportunities to invite that young mind to air his or her own feelings about those images.
