Who Wrote "From Here to the Moon and Back"?
The country music legend sings the song in a flashback scene where Parton with her husband Kris Kristofferson dances to the song then cuts back to present day where she sings the tune with her grandson played by Jeremy Jordan who accompanies her on guitar.
With well over half a century in the music business, it's easy to take this Nashville legend for granted. But what's great about Joyful Noise is that director/writer Todd Graff really honored and appreciated having Dolly on set and collaborated with her to develop music for the movie.
As a result, Dolly demoed over a dozen songs. In a behind the scenes video, the Joyful Noise director talks about how Dolly good naturedly told him that if he didn't like a particular song, she'd just write him another and as a result, three song made the movie.
In that same interview below, Dolly talks about how many people talk about the moon in a romantic light and yet she'd never heard a song written with that title. The song is sure to be a great first dance song at weddings, a father-daughter dance or even perfect for wedding anniversary parties.
You can hear and see Dolly sing "From Here to the Moon and Back" on the Soundtrack to Joyful Noise, currently in theaters co-starring Queen Latifah. The movie opened Friday, January 13, 2012 and the soundtrack is now available on CD and as an MP3 album download on iTunes and Amazon.com.

Don't ask Dolly to dance. Apparently the country music legend can play over a dozen instruments, has written award winning songs, toured tirelessly but she's the first to admit she probably won't be on Dancing With the Stars.
