From Boots to Baby Bottles

Wow!! What a life change. I served 8 years in the Army...I went to Iraq twice and now I am a Stay at home Mom. I got out of the service in July 2007. I am very proud of my service to my country and I am very proud to be in a new army of SAHM's. It is a new world to me that I never knew existed.

It has been such an experience!!Wow I can say that about the Army and being a SAHM. In both jobs I can say you learn about yourself so much. I had to sacrifice in both. In the Army I sacrificed time with my kids and being home I sacrificed a career. I am trying to start different WAHM businesses to see if I can balance both.

I have kept up a fitness plan. I loved PT(Physical Training) in the Army. I got better at it every year. I loved motivating my soldiers. I became a good runner and loved the way I felt mentally after PT. My body hurt like crazy, but it was a sense of acconmplishment that stuck with me all day. I would love to see more moms become very serious about fitness. It really does a body good. I finally joined a gym with daycare of course. I workout atleast 4 times a week. I also do 5k events. Don't be scared just get out and do it!!!

I still make task lists. I have certain things that I have to do everyday. I am good with my time and getting things done. Thanks to all the Army training. I still have to motivate troops(kids). They need motivation and discipline. They always say I still act like a Sergeant.

A whole new life!!!

The boot is on the other foot.

I always had soldiers and leaders with Stay at home wives and I was one before I got in the Army for a year. My kids were young then and I only had two. I did not have internet or have resources like SAHM's have now. I had my family close by and they helped tremendously.

My husband at the time was in the Army. I admired that so much. I was always fascinated with the military. My Dad served in the Navy during Vietnam and my Grandfather in the Army during the Korean Conflict. I have numerous family members that served, but I never knew about the lifestyle and what I would become by joining.

In high school I had good grades and groomed myself for college. I had great entrance exam scores and had my sights set on a good school. It all changed when I had my first child my senior year. Recruiters had always called me but people had always told me I was better off going to college. Well I graduated early, had my daughter and went to a local University. I struggled and eventually went to work full time, but the military was deep in my mind. After years of working and another child I made up my mind and joined.

It was an experience of a lifetime. I learned so much and became a stronger person. I never knew about this new world of the SAHM. I have been a SAHM for a year now. It has been great. I love being around my kids. It has had it hard times but I love it. My military training has helped a great deal. I can organize, manage my time and stay up a full 24 hours for baby duty. I have a new Chain of Command. The Kids are in charge now!!!
