You need to understand that there is more than one way to frost glass. You can use an etching compound which the below technique can be altered to fit that. But the technique we are going to talk about is for the spray on frosting solution that you can use.

Here is one method for frosting glass that is easy to do:

First, select which clear glass vase you are going to be frosting. Also pick out a stencil in the pattern you want the frosting. Then make sure to wash the vase thoroughly and then dry it completely. After it is dry tape the whole vase with with painter's tape. Then tape the stencil on the vase over the tape you just applied. Also tape any other areas where you do not want it to be frosted. You may have to trace over the pattern pressing hard if you are using a pattern design rather the a stencil. If you are using a stencil trace out your design with a marker.

Second, use a utility knife or a craft knife to gently cut your design out of the tape. Make sure your cut edges nice and neat. Trim off any rough edges. Also make sure all remaining tape is still stuck on the glass to prevent the frosting spray from seeping underneath it. Now you are ready for the fun part of making your own style of the frosted glass vases.

Third, make sure the area you are going to work in is well protected and is properly ventilated. Spray your vase with the frosting spray covering all the areas of your design. This will need to dry for at least 60 minutes. When it is totally dry you can remove all the painters tape and your vase will have a nice frosted design on it. You can leave with the clear glass showing in between the frosting or you can spray the whole vase. This will make the whole vase frosted and your decorative design will be double-coated which will make it stand out perfectly.

There are variations you can do with your frosted glass vases. One such variation you can do is painting a design on and letting the paint thoroughly dry and then frost the painted design and vase both. Another variation would be just use tape to make stripes on the vase then spray over it. Then when you remove the tape you have frosted stripes.

You can use etching cream to frost glass to with a similar technique but following the manufacturers instructions for it. Whichever materials you use to for your vases with have fun making your own frosted glass vases.
