A Little Bit About The Mojito
The Mojito since it's birth centuries ago somewhere outside of Havana, has been a huge favorite among cocktail lovers throughout the world. It's festive, it's cool, it's got yummy mint and rum, what's not to like?
Surprisingly, the Mojita is closely related to its Cuban cousin, the Mint Julep. That's surprising because when I think of Mojitos, I think more of Cuba and salsa, and palm trees, and warm tropical breezes. Mint Juleps are more Southern Belles on verandas. But, nope, they are related, probably due to the mint connection.
Though the original, and some would say only real, genuine Mojito is made with lime, there are now many, many different flavors and variations. You can get your Mojito on with strawberry, pomegranate, mango, pineapple, or watermelon, to name a few, and there are not just variations in fruit flavors. Some people recommend adding a dash of Angostura orange bitters to cut down the sweetness of the Mojito for those who don't like sweet sugary cocktails. Then again, some people love their drinks really strong and sweet, so they add golden rum in place of the light rum, and brown sugar in place of regular sugar or simple syrup. Another variation substitutes the lime for watermelon and the rum for silver tequila. Now that sounds awesome. Anything watermelon is good with me. Though variations can be really good, Mojito purists will insist that the only way to make a Mojito is the good old-fashioned way, and that is what you'll learn to make with this lens, a good, old-fashioned frozen Mojito.

- Hmm.. I LOVE mojitos, but never thought of having them frozen! I'd leave out the coconut, though, since I'm a traditional gal.
