Frugal Family Business

Short of embracing Lady Poverty and the peace and freedom voluntary removal from a money based system can bring, is a natural enterprise that aligns your nature with labor that is personally rewarding. Living simple as a frugal family uncovers many enduring treasures.

Another approach to the frugal life is starting a business that does not require constant oversight, but creates opportunities for free time and personal choice on how to best invest that freedom. Such a business needs to run on a congruent path with your values, and employ the power of personal integrity.

Freedom technologies come in all sorts of packages.


What a freedom technology is not: a job or a small business that feels and acts like a job. If you live in a country with compulsory education - this is what you were trained to seek. The underlying purpose of state approved training is to make you valuable to the state; and to instruct you in sacrificing your values to obedience with their shifting demands. You have been trained to fear thinking and acting for yourself, and to suspect those who do.

What a freedom technology is: Anything that liberates you to do as you wish, without infringing on others rights to do as they wish. Living simple is but one approach to replace worries with a personally rewarding lifestyle.

If you can become willing to take the consequences for your actions, and to learn from failures and mistakes caused by independent action - you can become free.

It is not too high a price to pay for liberty.

Let me give you a general analysis of the business model.

In its broadest sense, even looking for a job is best accomplished through your network of contacts. Network marketing is using your network contacts to sell products and services, and recruit independent contractors into your network.

Relationship marketing, multi-level marketing, and network marketing are growing quickly as an efficient method for selling goods and services with low overhead expenses. They replace traditional storefronts by using personal contacts.

The result - at the same price there is more profit for the manufacturer or service provider, a profit that is shared with the representatives. In fact, quality can be enhanced, service improved, and the price lowered while still being more profitable for the providers.

This is not always the case of course. Most network businesses go broke within a year, most representatives pay a bit for the privilege of being a representative and never succeed. There are successful exceptions, but all start with a huge number of dedicated followers or work extremely hard to find followers.

In many MLM groups, more money is made by leadership from selling tapes, CDs, materials, and seminars than is made from the products. The question quickly becomes - would your time, money and hard work have a bigger payoff in another form of business?

Most MLM sales undoubtedly come from representatives buying on their own account and pocketing the commission as a discount - but legitimate companies will have markets for their services outside growing groups of associates.


With all network marketing companies, the easiest route to growth is by adding more representatives, each running their own business. Most of the cost to enter the business goes to those that recruit new associates - the cost is small, but it seems aimed to reward growth producers. Associates get a real chance to earn significant income from recruiting and training a team.

Like all ventures, it will take at least six months to understand the business basics, two years to be exceptional, and a lifetime to keep growing. If the base MLM business fails tomorrow, and I have no reason to think it will, the small investment made can be more than paid back by the knowledge and experience gained.

Of course you could have spent the same money and attended one college course - but then you might have learned nothing useful; and almost certainly nothing immediately profitable.


Study many business ideas, develop your own ideas, then get started.

In general, you will not get rich by recruiting and selling to friends or family members.


The network marketing secret is that required efforts produce results by persistence. Your family and friends may lack necessary dedication and follow through. That does not mean the network marketing experience is not good for them - they may well learn business and social skills that will help them achieve their version of success eventually.

But one event can change everything. If they get a heavy hitter under them - their FHTM network marketing income, and yours, will sky rocket.

If your MLM business expands - so do the odds an associate will recruit a heavy hitter.

In most jobs and small businesses you sell your knowledge and skills for pennies. This leads to selling more of your time to acquire more things that use up your free time. Multi Level Marketing takes some time and multiplies it through others, so you have time to consider your life and how best to use it.

Offer your friends and family the chance to join you - see if they get as excited as you - then back off if they aren't. Don't risk ruining important relationships by being pushy.

Eventually they will come to you for help, and they will not be able to complain that you did not offer them a chance to succeed with you. If they hadn't chosen to follow your lead, at least you gave them the chance before your personal business took off.
