Frugal Home Decorating Ideas

Move furniture into a different room for a new look. We bought new furniture for the family room, so the old furniture found new homes in my office, my daughter's sitting room, our bedroom... I think that's it. Sure fills up empty spaces!

Is it really so bad to let the kids choose the color for their room? I guess there are lines to draw if you really can't live with their choice, but instead of saying No, you might pick up some paint chips to give him/her a choice. When my daughter was eight, she wanted a vibrant purple bedroom. I suggested softer colors, but she really wanted purple!

Of all the problems we could be dealing with, suddenly paint color wasn't a biggie. So, for five years, that's what she had. She was happy with her choice until we moved to another house, so I was happy too. And surprisingly enough, we sold the house, purple bedroom and all!

And a can of paint really doesn't cost very much and can give a punch of color to any room... even that purple.

Learn to scope out furniture. Know what to look for. You might still find a bargain that's worth even more than you paid for it! It's all in the knowing!

A large furniture store usually has little rooms all set up from start to finish. Take a notebook and scribble down every thing you like so that you can duplicate it to suit your budget. Who knows, you could even come across a deal that you didn't expect to find!
