How to Make a Pull-String Princess Castle Pinata

Ranked #2,784 in Parenting & Kids, #88,798 overall

Making a pull-string pinata can save bookoos of money! It's customizable too!

In February I hosted my daughter's 2nd Birthday party. She liked the new Princess and the Frog movie and I could not, for the life of me, find party supplies that matched the Princess theme that I was going with. My local retail store had pinata's available (without Princess Tiana) at a whopping $18-$20! In short, this entire party took place for well under $50, and that is including the cake I had custom made through a bakery. The whole idea of this party was to aim high, but spend low. If I had the opportunity to cut as much costs as possible to splurge on something to make that day run smoother, I'll take it!

Make it a Pull-String!

Throwing a birthday party for small children shouldn't take alot of money. Imagination and creativity can save money for you too!

For the Pull-String pinata, I used a box from a new coffee maker I just bought. I also made strips out of paper gift tissue left over from my daughter's baby shower. I "wrapped" the box with purple tissue paper, as a base color. I began at the bottom of the box with a strip of the tissue paper, gluing on a strip and snipping it to make fringe. Repeating this step up to the top, and all four side until the entire box looks like fringe.

On the bottom of the box I used sissors to make a three-sided "flap." Only make a three-sided flap so that when pulled, it acts as a latch and may be closed and reused, if you wish. I then poked a hole into the unattached side and threaded left over gift string from the baby shower. I then covered the area with purple tissue paper, attaching about 20 more strings in white and pink.

For the top of the castle, I used party hats left from my daughter's Barney Party. I wrapped them with purple tissue paper as a base, and using the same concept; pasted and snipped the white party streamer to make "fringe."

I made the decorations using clearenced christmas decorations. Garland for trim, and with the blue garland I made trees. I used pompoms to make a K for her name and on top of the party hats, I used the blue garland again to make "creeping" vines.

No need for a Pull-String Pinata?

Mini-Pinata's are What You are Looking For!

To begin, I Lysoled toilet paper rolls and allowed them to dry. I cut two circles for each toilet paper roll from an extra plain white poster board. I made all the circles even in size.

Next, I used (gift) tissue paper left from my daughter's baby shower to "wrap" the toilet paper rolls. I used the glue gun and beaded a line of hot glue vertically on the roll. I attached the tissue paper, and rolled until wrapped completely. I then made another bead of glue vertically, and snipped the tissue paper.along the bead of hot glue.

I then proceeded to "tuck" the extra tissue paper at each end of the roll. I taped it inside the roll.

I used the glue gun to attach the circles I previously mentioned. After doing so, I used white party streamer to make a "fringe." I made a trim from extra blue ribbon. On the top I used the same white party streamer to make another "fringe" After it was finished I used three pompoms, also bought at Dollar Tree and glued them to the top. I used a black sharpie to write a message as seen in the picture
