Fucose and Cardiovascular Health

Fucose has long been associated with anti cancer approaches but now emerging science is beginning to suggest that a diet rich in foods that contain fucoidans (more on that later) may actually pro actively aid cardiovascular health.
Chinese and Asia medicine has long promoted the use of seaweed and marine macro algae and it now seems they were right because these plants were rich in fucoidans.
Please understand that fucoidans is a term that covers many compounds and some are better than others - I'll explain in a moment.

Acting in a similar capacity to heparin, some fucoidans both inhibit cholesterol synthesis and act to reduce blood pressure. Fucoidans can also act as an antioxidant and detoxification agent, chelating unwanted excess metals from the blood serum. The selectin-antagonist properties of many fucoidans indicate potential to prevent reperfusion injury post-ischaemia. Fucoidan can also act as clot lysing agents and can help clear lipoproteins from the bloodstream, preventing vascular blockage.
