Bad Teeth - 3 Things That Killed My Teeth When I was Traveling

I have not been at my dentist for the last three years because I was traveling a lot. I was most of the time abroad and did not care much about my teeth because I never had bad teeth. When I came back I got some bad news from my dentist.

He has found seven cavities and problems with two root canals. That was really bad news. I was in the believe that I was brushing my teeth regularly and that this was all I had to do to maintain my otherwise healthy teeth. Obviously I was wrong. What had happened?

Beside the fact that I did not visit my dentist often enough, there must be another reason for my rapid tooth decay. It has never been that bad before. I think a primary reason was that I was traveling a lot and therefore had not much time to cook for myself. I did eat in restaurants almost every day and drink stuff that contained a lot of sugar. I guess many meals I ate did contain sugar as well.

Before I did not travel much and I often did cook for myself. When I cook then I try to be careful with sugar or salt, or any other spices. I do not have much control over this when I eat in a restaurant.

I was surprised how fast this can go. For almost twenty years I only had minor problems with my teeth and now I need some new crowns and probably even a dental implant. My dentist told me that the medications I take can also be a cause. Another reason could be that the water abroad did not contain enough fluoride and that drinking soda is bad for the tooth enamel.

There is no doubt that I changed my eating and drinking habits when I was traveling. I drank too much soda here and there, drinks that contained too much sugar and because of the stress at traveling I did not brush my teeth often enough. This all did cause my tooth decay. Next time I know better.
