Books Don't Have To Be Educational
We all know how essential reading is but what about for pure entertainment? Instead of TV, why not read a GREAT story to your little ones just for the pure fun of it? No life lessons, no critical thinking skills, no emphasis on education, just for FUN!!!!!
Mommie's Learnin's of Importance.
About Me
My kiddos are almost 3, 5 1/2, 9, and 12 1/2. I have read close to EVERY popular kids' book on the market. Classics, new stuff, educational stuff, religious stuff, developmental stuff, literary stuff, fun stuff, and everything in between.I've homeschooled and charter schooled. I've freaked out that the kids don't speak a third or fourth language already. Or composed their own piano concertos.
I've learned how to relax. I've learned that shoving stuff in to thier little brains all of the time is not the best way to raise a healthy and happy human being.
I've learned that competition isn't everything.
Most importantly, I've learned that it's OK to just be silly. Or goofy. Or irreverant. Or spontaneous. Sometimes.
Every single time I try to search online for great new kids' books, guess what I find? Loads of stuff on teaching them morality, or science, or classical literature, or another language. Sites about raising early, independent readers.
Um, did I miss something?
Why can't we just read for fun? A funny story just for enjoyment. Just for a laugh? A story with no pressure of sounding out words or pointing to the group of 7 balls. An ending with no "what is the moral of this story".
We let our kids watch movies and TV shows for fun sometimes, don't we? Then why is it that all of the reading material we share with them has to have a point? Not only that, but a serious point. Reading is serious business after all.
I say HOGWASH!!! Let's open up a good book just to enjoy the moment together. No lessons, just fun.

Olivia!!!
May I Present........
OLIVIA!Funny, way too smart, and maybe a teensy bit precocious, Olivia is a little big with a BIG imagination. I've been in love with Olivia since the very first time I picked up the original when my oldest daughter was younger. Ever since, our whole family eagerly anticipates Ian Falconer's next release. Olivia is addicting. Parents can read this great stories over and over and still be just as amused and entertained as their kiddos. She never gets old.

- The Pigeon books by Mo Willems have to be one of my absolute favorites. Plus the author is so great about promoting literacy programs and getting books in the hands of ALL children. I'm such a Pigeon fanatic that I subscribe to both his blog and Twitter feed. Who could get through their day without knowing Pigeon's new antics on trying to drive the bus?
