Fun Thanksgiving Crafts

This Thanksgiving I decided it would be fun to decorate my house with Thanksgiving crafts that my kids made. My children are getting old enough to enjoy spending time making crafts (especially my 6yr old) and I thought it would be a great project that I could do with my kids at home. I've spent the last few weeks finding fun, simple crafts that I thought my kids would enjoy doing. We have had a blast finding and making funThanksgiving crafts and I hope others will have just as much fun as we did!

Thanksgiving Candles

You will need: 1 toilet paper roll for each candle, a printer, paper, scissors, glue, and crayons or markers if you want to color them yourselves

1) Print out the template of choice (find them on the links voting plexo below)

2) Color and cut out the template pieces.

3) Glue the rectangular piece onto the toilet paper roll.

4) Glue on the flame.

5) Glue on the horns of plenty to decorate the candle as desired.

Alternative Decorating Ideas:

* Use sparkles, sparkle glue, or felt to decorate the candle further.

* Place the candle on a round decorated piece of paper, felt or paper doily.

* Print the black and white template on construction paper. Print a second copy on white paper and mix & match the pieces. .

Paper Bear Craft

You will need: printer, paper, glue and scissors

1) Print out the template of choice. You need both templates to make one bear (find them in the links voting plexo below)

2) Color.

3) Cut out the template pieces. (the pieces on the template are at about the angle they will be on the finished craft. That should help you sort out which pieces belong where)

4) Glue pieces together:

1- Glue the smaller oval (tummy) onto the large oval body.
2- Add the arms and legs onto the body
3- Glue on the head.
4- Add the muzzle and eyes.
5- Add the nose
6- Glue the hat on the bear's head
7- Glue the turkey into one of the hands

Cornucopia Paper Craft

1) Print out the template of choice (find them in the links voting plexo below)

Hand and Foot Turkey

You will need: Brown, red, orange and yellow construction paper, pencil, scissors, glue and googly eyes (optional)

1) Using brown construction paper trace your child's feet. These two pieces will be used to make the turkey's body.

2) Using the red, orange, and yellow construction paper trace your child's hands. There should be 6 hand-prints when you're done. These will be used to create the turkeys feathers.

3) Glue the two footprints together to make the turkey's body (both heals go next to each other to create the turkey's head).

4) Cut out a round wattle and an orange beak. Glue the wattle, beak, and googly eyes (or paper eyes) to the turkey's head. Make two legs from paper and glue then to the back of the body.

5) Glue the hand-prints to the back of the turkey to create the feathers. Enjoy your new turkey!

Cereal Turkey

1) Use construction paper or plain white paper draw a circle for the stomach (We traced a lid).

2) Drawl the turkey's head, face, feet and feathers (you can trace the child's hand for the feathers)

3) Color

4) Glue cereal in the circle (fruit loops work great!)

Here's a cute song you can sing with your child to go along with the turkey:

Albuquerque Turkey
(sung to the tune of "Clementine")
Albuquerque is a turkey
And he's feathered and he's fine
And he wobbles and he gobbles
and he's absolutely mine.
He's the best pet that you can get..
Better than a dog or cat.
He's my Albuquerque turkey
And I'm awfully proud of that.
He once told me, very frankly
he preferred to be my pet,
not the main course at my dinner,
and I told him not to fret.
And my Albuquerque turkey
is so happy in his bed,
'Cause for our Thanksgiving dinner...
We had CEREAL instead!

String of Leaves

You will need: Construction paper (orange, red, yellow, brown) or if you want to color or paint your leaves white paper, crayons, markers or paint, scissors, glue, tape or staples and a long piece of string (all I had was pink ribbon so that's what I used.)

1) You can either draw a leaf on a piece of construction paper or use the leaf template (located below) to trace or if your child wants to paint or color: print out the leaf template and color it. If you're using the leaf template make sure to draw a thick stem on each leaf (you will hang the leaves up by folding the stem over the string.)

2) Cut out the leaves. You can draw the leaf veins if you wish.

3) Fold the leaf's stem in half and attach it over the string using tape, glue or staples.

The kids love to paint!
