As one person's junk is another man's treasure, so is a funky design!
To elaborate, something to one person may be described as a funky design, but to another person, they may perceive that same thing as a cool, hip design. Being curious as to what the accepted definition of "funky" is, I consulted two online sources.
Bartleby.com presented a few good definitions: In slang, funky means earthy and uncomplicated or natural; or characterized by originality and modishness; unconventional, bizarre; or outlandishly vulgar or eccentric in a humorous or tongue-in-cheek manner, campy.
To some, designs described as kitschy, weird, or odd, often are "categorized" or though of as "funky." It's pretty much a matter of perception. What's cool to one person is funky to another.
