tee hee...that's me

This page was intended to focus on all the unique and sometimes unusual passions and pastimes I get into.
It is in the process of a complete overhaul to get it back into shape!

Funky Things I Get Into

  1. wearing weird hats... from Disney hats to ocean sponges. If it's a big weird hat, I like to get my picture taken in it!
  2. coloring... I love crayons!
  3. Squidoo addiction... I can't stop! Today I have been working on lens improvements for OVER 16 hours!
  4. Zazzle! A new funky passion that lets me show off my creativity!
  5. sitting in bookstore cafes with stacks of magazines, a giant cookie and a cafe breve

Yeah, I Get Around, So What?

brief bio and about my life of travel

I was born in York, PA in August 1968. I graduated Dallastown High School in 1986 and briefly attended West Chester University, where I studied French and creative writing. I relocated to central Florida in 1992, living in various locations around the state until autumn 2006, when I relocated to Albuquerque, NM. I have also had extended stays in Ireland and the United Kingdom, as well as visits to Provence and Paris.

For eleven months last year, my home and workplace was the South Rim at Grand Canyon National Park, a job I was hired for online. (Please see my Adventure Workers lens!)
I am now preparing to leave for my next work assignment, retail summer season at Grand Teton National Park.

Places I Have Lived

in case you were curious!

All the pinpoints on this map designate places I have lived for at least three months.

Travel May be My Primary Passion

As you can tell from the map and info above, I like to move around! I have lived in four states and three different countries. Travel is probably my main passion.
However, I do not like to travel as a "tourist". When I go places, I like to stay as long as possible, try to meet or stay with locals, to learn about life in other places and really find out what a location is about.

I have been to Ireland 3 times (total of 22 weeks), France twice (total of 2 weeks), and the UK once (for nearly 6 months).

My Other Funky Passions? Check it Out!

I have an eclectic range of interests which I call my funky passions. They range from everyday "weird" stuff to cool creative pursuits.

One funky passion you can usually find me doing 2-3 times a week (when I'm in a larger town) is sitting at a bookstore cafe with a stack of books and magazines in front of me! I love the visual stimulation from imagery of projects and products in arts and crafts, decor, and travel publications.

Another pursuit is collecting art and craft supplies! I collect far more of them than I will probably ever use, and yet I can always find something more I NEED when I go by a craft store. And it is hard for me to go by one without stopping!

Of course, I use these products for a number of my other passions... collage, altered art, painting, assemblage, jewelry design and fabric arts.

Other Fun Things I Enjoy

I always have too many things going on to concentrate on any one in particular, it seems.
Right now, most of my time is devoted to creative pursuits, since I'm between jobs.
I am doing Mail Art swaps, altering clothing, designing and making jewelry, selling my creations and unused supplies on eBay, and working on mixed media projects.
I have also developed a passion for Japan's unique culture and history.

A day in the life in Japan (Winter)

This was a video I shot and put together to show to the fam and friends a few years back illustrating an average day teaching English in Japan. It all takes place in the city of Oita, about a 90 minute flight south west of Tokyo, on Kyushu island. This is LONG, about 37 minutes, but will show what teaching English overseas, particularly in Japan, is like. Lots of folks have asked how one can get over to Japan to teach English. One fantastic way(with a B.A. of any variety) is JET: http://www.jetprogramme.org/ If you have any questions, don't hesitate to message me.

I am an artist, and I get around! The world, that is! My lenses strive to bring together those two passions. I love to create and promote regional art gift products and showcase design/decor styles which appeal to me, whether they are Native American, Asian or tropical.
I have a passion for blue glass, blue and white pottery, southwestern pottery, funky socks, funky hats, and...pink flamingos!
I also happen to love cats.
