Search Party! Funny Google Searches

People Google the darndest things

One of the nicest things Squidoo provides for us lensmasters is a traffic stats page where we can track how visitors found our lenses--from email, blogs, and other Squidoo lenses to search engines like Yahoo and Google.

Don't know about anyone else, but nerd that I am, I've been fascinated by some of the searches that have landed folks on my lenses.  Usually they make total sense.  Sometimes I wonder wow, how did they get from that point A to my point B? (Although of course I'm glad they did!)  And other times, a Google search phrase just tickle my funnybone.

Searches that get their quirks from language or grammar problems are not what I'm talking about here--'cause that would be mean.  I'm thinking of other qualities...

the hyperfocused searcher

Somebody landed last week on the lens below by searching on "francoise hardy bangs." And I thought I was the only one obsessed with the haircut of this '60s French style icon! Clearly I have a soulmate on the web ;)

the overly ambitious searcher

I think the person who searched for "my mom threw away my favorite coat" probably needed more than this lens could deliver...

Likewise with the (presumably) parent or teacher who sought to answer the timeless question "why do some kids need more attention than others" and found this lens...

the indecisive searcher

"victor hugo zola youtube wikipedia"?

Let's see, I need a famous 19C French writer. Not sure which one. But I wanna either read about him or watch a video...or both. Not sure. Wait, what's this? Pretty pictures from Paris!

the candid searcher

The lens below features all sorts of advice on standing up to a teacher who doles out excessive homework...but the person who searched for "30 minutes homework takes 2 hours if your on facebook" seems to have a handle on the real problem :}

oops! wrong lens

Sorry to have disappointed the gal (?) who sought to "boost bust in natural way" and found this instead.

Share Your Funny Searches :-P

Lensmasters, give me the funny google phrase and the lens it took your searcher to, and I'll feature it here. (Play nice, please, and avoid grammar- or ESL-related humor.) Or share the goofiest thing you've ever searched on.

Oh, I love this lens! I've asked this question in the Lensmaster Lounge from time to time.

Some of my favorite odd searches have been:

How tall is Medusa [yes, ancient Greek myths include dimensions!]
Why [oddly, a lens on kitemaking seemed to solve this person's existential dilemma]
Where to buy a pet aplysia [a species of sea slug]

I just Googled "Why" & got, on the 1st 2 pgs--
"Why Nerds are Unpopular" (debatable, really)
"Why Won't God Heal Amputees?" :(
    "This is why you're fat"
    "Why work?"

    Think I prefer kitemaking!

What do you think of the Microsoft Bing commercials (above) about "search overload syndrome"? For me, it depends on my mood when they come on.
