This brings sweet, fun memories again. Susie tweeted, so I squidooed over. Parts of so many of these songs burst out of me from time to time, I don't seem to know all the words to any of them--Well, maybe "They"re Coming to Take Me Away". I've been trying to remember the words for "The Little Blue Man", it was on the back side of a single many years ago, I think just after the last ice age.

    I Shot Your Babe
    By Sunni & Shi’a

It’s tragic to think we’ll never grow
Or laugh, or cry, or drink ’97 Bordeaux.
‘Cause everything my brothers say is true:
If you don’t kill me, baby I’ll kill you.

    Babe,
    I shot your babe.

We’ll burn your farms and obliterate
Around twenty percent of villages in Kuwait.
But it’s not just you, ‘cause now and then
We shoot the Security Council of the UN.

    Babe
I shot your babe (in the head)

I got Hamas all over my face
And Farrouk Kaddoumi said I’m a disgrace.
But when I’m trying to make a plan,
You’re off bombing schools in Azerbaijan.

Your beard is never too long for me
But it probably is for airport security.
So let’s join up now, our information we’ll trade
And go off to join the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade.

    Babe
I shot your babe (and then your dog)

Nicely done, Joan! Congrats on your accomplishments. I must admit that my comedic tastes are a bit more "hard-core" with the likes of Bob Saget, Adam Sandler, The Darkness, Bloodhound Gang, Tenacious D, and Sam Kinison, among others... but I do get the humor of your selections (I would personally label most of them "cute" rather than funny - but different strokes, right?) Congrats again, Joan. 5 more stars comin' your way!

Joan, What a hoot! I have always loved Ray Stevens and Roger Miller songs and both men are and were very talented at making me laugh... which is a good thing! Also both were talented songwriters and serious musicians and as an interesting footnote, both had a successful link to Kris Kristofferson in that genre: Roger Miller made the original recording of, Me and Bobby McGee in 1969 and it reached #12 on the C&W charts and Ray Stevens recorded the original version of, Sunday Morning Coming Down... also in 1969 and it became his first hit reaching #55 in C&W and #81 on the pop top 100! Mucho Congratulations on being selected as a Giant 100 Squid and your magnificent lensography. 5***** and favored.

This is great, and a good day to find it, I need some laughs. Congrats on being in the top 100. I know what you mean about songs going through your head, now "Does your chewing gum lose its flavor....." is going through my head.

Hello! Joan, This is a great lens with historic value for me, being an emigrant from Europe ( I have been in States since 1980 - you probably notice my "English"), I don't know a good part of the songs and I have a really good time listening.
    Thanks so much!

May the bird of paradise fly up your nose,
may an elephant caress you with his toes,
may your wife be plagued with runners in her hose,
may the bird of paradise fly up your nose.

I'm not sure, maybe Ray Stevens?

I remember when my wife and I were singing this song on a trip when our daughter was about 12 or so. She kept saying, "That's not a real song!"

When she got to her Granny's house, she ran in and said, "Granny, you won't believe what Mama and John have been singing!"

She sang a few words and her Granny joined in.

She just stood there with her mouth open staring at all of us like we were crazy!

You have a great selection of fun songs, here!

Ray Stevens is awesome! "Guitarzan" is a song that my daughter and I would sing together when she was young, but now she's crazy about Jerry Reed's "Amos Moses." Thanks for brightening my day with these funny tunes!

Oh my gosh... do some of these songs bring back memories. I forgot that Johnny Cash sang"A boy Named Sue. I was in high school at the time and everyone was raving about Cash. I was a Nancy Wilson and Ella Fitzgerald fan myself... that country stuff was for hicks. But... I soon learned to love Cash... he was so crusty.

Joan, when I went looking for "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh" I found this one with film clips of Charlie Chaplin:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwvlbMU9scs

I couldn't find one showing Allan Sherman doing the song, but this one's pretty good.

Another favorite crazy song is "The Eggplant that Ate Chicago" by Dr. West's Medicine Show & Junk Band.

What a lot of memories this lens brings up. Love it. My Dad - long dead now - used to sing silly songs and play the harmonica instead of reading bed-time stories. One of my favorites was 'I know an old lady who swallowed a fly---I don't know why she swallowed a fly----perhaps she'll die. And so on..One of those progressive songs. I think the old lady finally dies after swallowing a cow. Hadn't thought of it in years. Thanks for the memory, Joan.

Joan, I love your sense of humor. It comes through in lenses like this!
My mom used to entertain us with her sappy rendition of "Detour". We'd take cross-country roadtrips and she always kept us laughing. I found the lyrics online, which brought back lots of crazy memories of those summer trips.

Glad I found this lens. Thanks!

I'll have to come back and listen some more, but so far the kid coming up through the trap door ("Always Welcome to our House") had me almost pee my pants.
5*s, a hearty SquidAngel Blessing, and a vote in the contest. :)

What a fun lens. I'm just so surprised to find you have heard of Lonnie Donegan and Max Bygraves. Lonnies's best known song from when I was little was "My Old Man's A Dustman". Max Bygraves used to live in my home town of Bournemouth, now he has retired to Australia, but he did a comeback concert in Bournemouth last year. 5***** for a very interesting and silly lens.

CCGal, that's hilarious!! I have never heard that. Reminds me tho of a similar one we used to sing. Will have to ask my sisters! Thank you!

My favorite funny song is from the very early 1900's -- my dad (born in 1900) used to sing it to me. It's a wee bit ribald, without using any bad words. During the dramatic pause part, he'd make big google eyes like he was gonna say the "bad word" and then we'd giggle and tickle during the chorus. Ah, what good memories!

My Aunt Sally was a-pickin' 'sparagrass
    'long come a bumble bee
and stung her on the (dramatic pause)
Do Take Care of the Bees
    and Listen while I sing,
for if you let'em buzz around,
    surely they will sting.

    She called for the doctor
    the doctor came at last,
but all that he discovered was
a goonball on her (dramatic pause)
Do Take Care of the Bees
    and Listen while I sing,
for if you let'em buzz around,
    surely they will sting.

    The doctor made a plaster
he made it of apple sass
and when she went to bed that night
she put it on her (dramatic pause)
Do Take Care of the Bees
    and Listen while I sing,
for if you let'em buzz around,
    surely they will sting.

I heard a song when I was a kid: "Well, I was born in Tennessee and I was married when I was three, my kinfolk said that's far too young, that I should wait til I become, a growd-up gal of seven." Can't remember the rest. Something about "Just one big happy family.." Hysterical. If you know it, let me know.
  • OhMe Sep 13, 2008 @ 11:44 am | delete
What fun, fun, fun! I sure enjoyed this one. Of course, my favorite has to be "You're Always Welcome To Our House". We still have fun with that one, don't we? 5* fav
