What's in the Box - Fun Party Games For Kids

Party Surprise

  • - Put a large, beautifully painted box on a raised place or hang it under the ceiling.

  • - Near the box on the wall hang a poster proposing the party guests to guess what is in the box.

  • - The party guests write their variants of answers on the sheets of paper and put them into a little box, which is situated not far from the poster (sheets of paper and pencils are on the table near the poster).

  • - The party guests mustn't touch, weigh or look inside the box.

  • - This game usually lasts for 30-40 minutes.

  • - Then all the answers are given to the jury. The jury chooses the winner.

  • - The answers may be different because the party guests are not given any descriptions of the object in the box.

  • - In this game the answers are based on the mere guesswork.

  • - Sometimes no one of the guests gives the right answer.

  • In this case the jury tries to find the most similar answer.

  • - If there are several right answers the jury distributes the contents of the box among the guests whose answers are right.

    Ballon Bust Relay

Fun Party Games For Kids Older Than 6

    - Purchase large balloons, stuff with a prize such as a whistle, then inflate and tie.

    - You will need one balloon for each guest.

  • - Divide children into two teams and place each team behind the start line.

  • - At the other end of the room are the balloons.

  • - On your mark a child from each team runs to the other end of the room, grabs a balloon and sits on it, bounces on it, lays on it, anything they can do to make it pop.

  • - When the balloon pops they collect their prize and run back to their teammates

  • - The game continues until every child has retrieved their prize.

  • - If one team falls behind parents are allowed to help.

  • - If you don't have time for a relay yell, "GO" and let every child grab a balloon at the same time and try to pop it.

  • - Make sure to carefully clean up the balloon remains, as they are choke hazards for young kids.
  • Hunt The Penny

There are several variations on this game.

    • Option 1 - Hide many little goodies (1c pieces or some other small item) all over the party area. The guests must all scramble to find as many goodies as they can (provide each guest with a small basket or bucket if you like). The child holding the most items when you call 'Stop' is the winner.
    • Option 2 - Hide just one small item. The children must all hunt for it, but must not remove it when they find it. Those who have found it must simply go and sit in a designated place and wait for the others. A good way to keep kids of about 5-7 occupied for a while. The first person to find the item may be designated the winner if you choose
    • Option 3 - Hide an item for each of the guests, and the birthday child around the party area. Choose items that reflect your theme, such as ittle butterflies, fairy ornaments, appropriate stickers, etc. Attach each child's name to an item and tell them they must find their own treasure (parents can help younger children) - this keeps them busy for a little longer and prevents eager beavers from collecting up every gift they can find.

  • - Equipment: Large items of furniture

  • - This is a great kid party game for a large group of children and one that the smaller size children can do well in.

  • - Use a large room or garden where there are various items of large furniture or objects that you don't mind the children clambering on.

  • - One person is chosen to be the captain and then all the kids run round the garden or room.

  • - As soon as the captain shouts "Shipwreck - bench" for example, the kids all have to rush to the bench and climb on it.

  • - The last one on is said to have sunk in the sea and is out of the game.

  • - As more and more players are out, the captain names smaller and smaller things to climb on.

    Children Are Like Kites

    I see children as kites.
You spend your lifetime trying to get them off the ground.
You run with them until you're both breathless..
They crash... you add a longer tail...
You patch and comfort, adjust and teach.
You watch them lifted by the wind and assure them that someday they'll fly.

Finally they are airborne, but they need more string so you keep letting it out.
With each twist of the ball of twine there is a sadness that goes with the joy,
because the kite becomes more distant, and somehow you know it won't be long before that beautiful creature will snap the lifeline that bound you together
and soar as it was meant to soar - free and alone.
