No matter what you collected first, I bet you still collect something!

It seems to be a national obsession. The desire to own something no one else does, the need to possess a "set" of something rare or just the desire to make a lot of money in the process of buying and re-selling something others are collecting.

Who actually makes money?

If you had powers that told you in the 1950s and 1960s that baseball cards, Elvis records with the jackets still on them and comic books would be worth a fortune in the 1990s and later, you would have bought all you could get your hands on, put them in a climate controlled vault and waited 30 or 40 years.

The better way --- find out what is hot NOW and use eBay or swap meets to buy and sell it NOW.

Beanie Babies were selling like crazy a few years ago. People waited in lines for the "chance" to buy them when they arrived at stores. Some were selling for tens and hundreds of dollars on eBay. Now you can get them for 25 cents at any garage sale. Who made money? The store owners and the people selling them on eBay. If you held on too long, you still have them. Maybe they will be worth something in 40 years - maybe not.

Collect what you like. Don't expect to make a fortune. If it happens, that is great. If it doesn't, you collected them because you enjoyed it.
